    • A radiation image read-out apparatus is constituted for scanning a stimulable phosphor sheet carrying a radiation image stored thereon with a beam of stimulating rays which cause the stimulable phosphor sheet to emit light in proportion to the stored radiation energy, and photoelectrically detecting the light emitted by a stimulable phosphor sheet portion scanned with the beam of stimulating rays by use of a photodetector to obtain an image signal. The radiation image read-out apparatus is constituted so that the beam diameter of the beam of stimulating rays is adjusted to be smaller than a picture element size and each of picture elements is scanned by a plurality of scanning passes with the beam of stimulating rays. An addition device is provided for adding a plurality of image signals per picture element obtained by the plurality of scanning passes.

    • A radiation image recording and read-out apparatus comprises a case housing a stimulable phosphor sheet and having an opening, a light shielding cover housed in the case for projection therefrom through the opening, a recording section for exposing the stimulable phosphor sheet disposed at an exposure position in the light shielding cover projected out of the case to radiation, and a read-out section having a sub-scanning system for moving the stimulable phosphor sheet between the exposure position and a position in the case. Or, the apparatus comprises a case having an opening for passing the stimulable phosphor sheet therethrough, a recording section for exposing the stimulable phosphor sheet disposed at the exposure position in the case to radiation, and a read-out section having a sub-scanning system for moving the stimulable phosphor sheet between the exposure position and a position projected out of the case. Alternatively, the apparatus comprises a sheet feed system for reciprocating a strip-like flexible stimulable phosphor sheet between first and second wind-up shafts, and a recording section for exposing the stimulable phosphor sheet disposed between the first and second wind-up shafts to radiation.

    • An analysis chip comprises a thin film layer, which is formed on a dielectric material block and has two different regions. A flow path unit comprising a supply path for supplying a sample onto the thin film layer and a discharging path for discharging the sample is releasably loaded into the analysis chip. A light beam is irradiated to a first interface between one region of the thin film layer and the dielectric material block, and a second interface between the other region of the thin film layer and the dielectric material block, in a parallel manner. Refractive index information with regard to a substance to be analyzed, which is located on the thin film layer, is acquired from intensities of the light beam totally reflected from the first interface and the light beam totally reflected from the second interface.
