SOLUTION: In this mechanical type brake actuator including a strut engaging with one brake shoe and a plate-like brake lever engaging with the other brake shoe, a retaining member having a tongue is mounted in a portion of the strut so that the retaining member resiliently deforms toward a free end of the brake lever, a connecting pin can be coupled through a by-pass hole formed in the tongue of the retaining member only when the retaining member is resiliently deformed, and the movement of the connecting pin is restricted by the tongue of the retaining member after releasing the resilient deformation of the retaining member after connection.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accomplish both prevention of disengagement of a shoe-hold spring from a shoe-hold apparatus and improvement of the assemblability of the shoe-hold apparatus.
      SOLUTION: A shoe-hold pin has a small diameter shaft portion and a large diameter shaft portion. One end opened slots are formed at the pair of arm pieces of the U-shaped shoe-hold spring, and the slots are such that the small diameter shaft portion of the shoe-hold pin is passable therethrough and the large diameter shaft portion thereof is non-passable. A pin-insertion hole, which is continuous to the slot of the arm piece on the side of a web and stores the large diameter shaft portion therein, is formed in the arm piece on the side of the web and restricts the shoe-hold spring from disengaging therefrom when the large diameter shaft portion of the shoe-hold pin is stored in the pin-insertion hole.
