    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rivet of high reliability capable of enlarging spreading of a tip portion of the rivet, and an engagement area to a lower joined material, improving resistance force to separation, having no anisotropy in shearing strength, and keeping the joined materials in a good joining state.
      SOLUTION: This rivet 1 has a head portion 2, a shaft portion 3 extending along a center axis O of the head portion 2, and an edge portion 9 formed on a tip portion of the shaft portion 3. The rivet 1 is driven in the stacked joined materials W1, W2, the shaft portion 3 is radially deformed inside of the joined material W2 located at a final position in the driving direction, and the joined materials W1, W2 are held and joined by the head portion 2 and the tip portion of the shaft portion 3. The shaft portion 5 has a thick portion 6 near the head portion 2 and a thin portion 8 thinner than the thick portion 6, and an outer diameter of the thin portion 8 is reduced in comparison with that of the thick portion 6.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction stir welding method which can suppress the deterioration of the strength of the welded portion formed by the friction stir welding, and further to provide a welded member.
      SOLUTION: In the friction stir welding method, a reinforcing material 4 is arranged at the abutted portion 2 of objects to be welded, and a welding tool 3 is inserted into the abutted portion of the materials to be welded, and is moved along the abutted portion while being turned. The reinforcing material is made of boron-, silicon carbide-, carbon- or alumina-based fiber or whisker. The whisker of the reinforcing material has a diameter of 0.02 to 1.5 μm, and a length of 3 to 200 μm. The fiber of the reinforcing material has a diameter of 1 to 250 μm. The welded member can be achieved by the friction stir welding method described above. The reinforcing material is uniformly distributed over the welded portion of the objects to be welded at a rate of 10 to 30 vol.%.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rivet, and a junction method using the rivet, in which resistance of subject members combined with each other to rotation is greatly increased, in which shearing strength is roughly equal along the whole circumference of a shaft part, and in which only a small amount of pressure is necessary for driving.
      SOLUTION: This rivet is provided with a head part 2, and a hollow shaft part 4, connected to the head part 2 at a base end, and having a center hole 3 opened at a tip. In the hollow shaft part 4, a slit 6 is continuously formed from a tip opening to the base end to allow the inside of the center hole 3 to communicate with the outside. The subject members WU and WL, combined with each other, are set on a die D over a workpiece placement surface Db having a recess D1. The rivet is disposed on the upper subject member WU, and the head part 2 of the rivet is pushed to be driven with a punch P dropped, so that the rivet penetrates the upper subject member WU till the tip of the hollow shaft part 4 gets into the lower subject member WL to deform the subject member WL and the hollow shaft part 4 of the rivet 1 corresponding to the recess Da in the die D.
