    • Apparatus for safely and efficiently removing a layer of asbestos or like material from a generally planar or corrugated ceiling surface, I-beams or the like is disclosed and comprises a head assembly including an outer cover having a first open portion adapted to face the asbestos layer and a second open portion communicating with suction means through asbestos collecting means, an open ended inner wall member mounted within the outer cover to define an air passage between the inner wall member and the outer cover, and a rotary wire brush mounted within the inner wall member and adapted to engage and remove the asbestos layer from the surfaces to be stripped. The apparatus also includes adjusting means for moving the head assembly to an operative position wherein the rotary wire brush is in scraping contact with the asbestos layer with a small gap present between the peripheral edge of the first open portion of the outer cover and the surface to be stripped. During a scraping operation, the suction means sucks the ambient air into the air passage in the outer cover through the small gap so that the sucked air entrains asbestos laden dust from the inner wall member to thereby prevent the escape of the removed asbestos to the ambient environment.

    • Described herein is a slag removing apparatus suitable for use on a padi-welding machine, which permits automation of the pad-welding operation and which essentially includes: a C-shaped roller holder located beneath a movable welding torch and provided with a rotational drive mechanism for a roller to be padded; a pair of extension arms horizontally extended on the open side of the roller holder and fixed in vertically adjustable positions; a guide rail support member provided with a rack and bridged between the extension arms in parallel relation with the rotational axis of the roller drive mechanism and detachably at least at one end thereof; a carriage having on a rockable plate a drive motor and a pinion disengageably meshed with the rack and movable along the support member; an inclined mount plate provided on the carriage with a predetermined angle of inclination; and a vibrational beating mechanism holding at least one needle bundle with the fore end thereof in face-to-face relation with the welding surface of the roller; the drive motor being driven in synchronism with movements of the torch in the transverse direction.

    • An improved apparatus for rebuilding worn shoe grouser for track chain by welding operation is disclosed. The worn part of shoe is cut off and replacement lug is placed on grouser so that the welding end face of the former comes in tight contact with the welding end face of the latter while they are held between the lug holding member and the shoe holding member. The shoe holding member is adapted to move forward and backward via a shoe supporting member by means of a hydraulic cylinder and the whole assembly of hydraulic cylinder, shoe supporting member, shoe holding member and lug holding member is turnable about the axis of rotary shafts by actuating the turning mechanism. While replacement lug and grouser are brought in firm contact with one another, welding operation is carried out over the one welding area on shoe to be rebuilt. After completion of welding operation the turning mechanism is actuated by rotating a handle so that the whole assembly is turned upside down whereby another welding operation is carried out over the other welding area. The lug holding member is formed with a groove on the one side into which replacement lug is fitted, while it includes a rotary shaft on the other side so that the assembly can be turned. Plural combinations of lugs and grousers may be arranged one after another with spacers interposed therebetween.
