    • To reduce road noise in running by disposing a noise damper made of a spongy material in a cavity of a tire, a tire and rim assembly is provided. The tire and rim assembly 1 including a rim 2, a pneumatic tire 3 attached to the rim 2, and a noise damper 4 made of a spongy material which is disposed in a tire cavity “i” surrounded by the rim 2 and the pneumatic tire 3 and extends in the tire circumferential direction, wherein the noise damper 4 has a volume of 0.4 to 20% of the whole volume of the tire cavity “i” and is fixed to an inner surface 2i or 3i of the tire or rim, the noise damper 4 has a height of 30 mm or less from the inner surface, and the spongy material of the noise damper 4 has a hardness of 10 to 250 N, a tensile strength of 70 kPa or more and a specific gravity of 0.014 to 0.052.

    • A tire noise reducing system comprises a wheel rim, a pneumatic tire and a noise damper disposed in the tire cavity and made from a spongy material whose total volume is in a range of from 0.4 to 20% of a volume of the tire cavity. The maximum thickness of the damper between the base end surface and the top end surface is in a range of from 1.0 to 4.5 cm. The width of the base end surface is more than the maximum thickness. The width of the damper is not increased in the direction from the base end surface to the top end surface, and each of side faces defined as extending from the edges of the base end surface to the edges of the top end surface is at least partially provided with an aslant portion inclined at an angle theta of from 30 to 75 degrees with respect to the base end surface. The damper is preferably fixed to the inside of a tread portion of the tire.

    • A tire noise damper to be disposed in an annular tire hollow formed between a wheel rim and a pneumatic tire mounted thereon, the damper made of a flexible material and comprising a base to be secured to the wheel rim and at least one flap extending from the base to be risen radially outwards from the wheel rim by centrifugal force during running to block the annular tire hollow. For example, the damper comprises at least one annular elastic band to be put around the wheel rim, the annular band provided with at least one U-cut for forming a flap, and the base is formed by the remaining annular portion of the band. In another example, the damper is made of a strip of the fixable material having a certain length, the base is formed by one end portion of the strip, and the flap is formed by the remaining portion of the strip.

    • A pneumatic tire includes a tread portion provided with a series of design-cycles repeating in the circumference of the tire at variable pitches. The number (NP) of different kinds of pitches is at least 10. The variable pitches repeat increase and decrease alternately in one circumferential direction of the tire to define start design-cycles inclusive to the next start design-cycles from which the pitches start to increase. A series of design-cycles is composed of a series of units, each unit defined as a group of design-cycles starting from one of that start design-cycles inclusive to the next start design-cycle exclusive. The total number of units is from 4 to 20. The units consist of at least one first-unit, the number of which is 20 to 80% of the total number, at least one second-unit, the number of which is 20-80% of the total number, and optionally a third-unit, the number of which is 0 to 60% of the total number. The first unit is defined as including at least one pitch which is not less than a standard long pitch (PLa) and at least one pitch which is not more than a standard short pitch (PSa). The second unit is defined as including at least one pitch within one of the following two ranges, a range of not less than the standard long pitch (PLa) and a range of not more than the standard short pitch (PSa), but no pitch within the other range. The third unit is defined as all of the pitches therein more than the standard short pitch (PSa) and less than the standard long pitch (PLa).
