    • An apparatus includes a processor. The processor may be configured to: make a first determination, by a mobile station in idle mode, that a trigger condition for cell selection has been met for a target base station as compared to a current preferred base station; compare a network specified cell preference of the target base station to a network specified cell preference of the current preferred base station; select the target base station as a new preferred base station if the cell preference of the target base station is the same or lower than the cell preference of the current preferred base station; otherwise, if the cell preference of the target base station is higher than the cell preference of the current preferred base station, then selecting the target base station as a new preferred base station only if the trigger condition for cell selection for the target base station is still met after a delay period after the first determination has been made.

    • Various example embodiments are disclosed. An example method includes receiving a signal (904). The received signal includes a first sub-signal from a first source, the first sub-signal including a first codeword representing a first message. The first codeword including a first plurality of data symbols. The received signal also includes a second sub-signal from a second source, the second sub-signal including a second codeword representing a second message. The second codeword includes a second plurality of data symbols and is received substantially simultaneously with the first sub-signal. The example method further includes demodulating the received signal using hierarchical modulation to determine the first codeword and the second codeword by determining, respectively, the first plurality of data symbols and the second plurality of data symbols (906). The example method still further includes decoding the first codeword to determine the first message (908) and decoding the second codeword to determine the second message (910).

    • A method for transmitting data from a source to a destination. The method includes: transmitting the data from the source to both the destination and a relay station within a first transmission; decoding the data in the first transmitting at both the relay station and the destination wherein the destination acknowledges success of the decoding by generating a ACK message or lack of success by generating either a NACK message or by failing to generate the ACK signal; retransmitting from the source information related to the first transmission in response to either the NACK message or the failure of the destination to generate the ACK message; and wherein when the relay station decodes the data sent by the source within the first transmission correctly, the relay station transmits a second transmission; or, on the other hand, if the relay station is unable to decode the data correctly from the first transmission sent by the source, the relay station remains silent. The destination may be another relay station.
