    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophoretic display device with low power consumption, in which accumulation of residual DC components is suppressed, occurrence of afterimage and burning is prevented and an inverted image is not displayed in updating, and to provide a driving method of the electrophoretic display device.SOLUTION: An image updating period is composed of a reset period including at least one agitation pulse for agitating electrophoretic particles and a compensation pulse for suppressing accumulation of residual DC components and a set period including a set pulse for applying voltage with polarity for transiting a pixel to black or white to a desired pixel for a desired period in accordance with a next image. A voltage waveform in each display gradation is set so that a period for applying a positive voltage to a counter electrode and a period for applying a negative voltage are not mutually overlapped and a compensation pulse is applied after an agitation pulse for setting all pixels of a display part to white or black normal states, so that a change in a display state is not visually recognized before and after application of the compensation pulse.
