    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent damage to a catalyst carrier 13 due to movement of foreign matters such as welding spatters on an end face of the catalyst carrier 13. SOLUTION: The end face on an exhaust flow direction upstream side of the catalyst carrier 13 is disposed to be inclined in the vertical direction. A recessed groove 17 for trapping foreign matters is provided in the vicinity of a position to be a lowest point in the vertical direction on the end face on the exhaust flow direction upstream side of a carrier holding mat 14 wound on the catalyst carrier 13. When at least a part of the recessed groove 17 is extended in a direction crossing the exhaust flow direction, popping of foreign matters can be prevented.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain an exhaust emission control device from being deteriorated caused by bringing an exhaust emission control catalyst into a temperature excessively higher with respect to an exhaust temperature.
      SOLUTION: This exhaust emission control device of an internal combustion engine 1 includes a fuel injection valve 25 for injecting fuel, and the exhaust emission control catalyst 34 provided in an exhaust pipe 30 to emission-control an exhaust, and the exhaust emission control device further includes a catalyst temperature estimating means S4 for estimating a temperature of the exhaust emission control catalyst 34 based on an exhaust temperature and an air-fuel ratio, and a fuel injection amount increasing means S10 for increasing a fuel injection amount injected from the fuel injection valve 25 based on the estimated temperature of the exhaust emission control catalyst 34.
