    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a liquefied coal without reducing the efficiency of the liquefying reaction by sufficiently supplying an hydrogen gas to the coal slurry, even if highly concentrated, by using a slurry preparation solvent having a higher capacity as a hydrogen donor or by increasing the ratio of the hydrogen gas to coal slurry for the purpose of hydrogen compensation. SOLUTION: This method comprises the following process: reacting such a coal slurry, a mixture of coal, solvent, and catalyst as to contain >=40 wt.% of the coal and 1 to 3 wt.% of the catalyst based on the dried coal with a hydrogen gas at high temperatures and high pressures; recovering the resultant liquefied oil as three product oils consisting essentially of light oil, medium oil and heavy oil by fractional distillation under normal or reduced pressures: thus liquefying the coal. In the above process, at least one of the next 4 operative factors is selected: setting a hydrogen concentration in the supply gas at 85 to 100 vol.%; setting the ratio of the hydrogen gas to slurry at 170 to 1,500 Nl/kg; setting a reaction pressure at 170 to 250 kg/cm G; and using a solvent with an aromatic carbon index fa of 0.4 to 0.6 and/or with a hydrogen donor index PDQI of 10 to 20 mg/l.

    • PURPOSE:To reutilize the gas as a fuel gas and a reducing gas by subjecting a coal slurry to a liquefying reaction with the reducing gas under a high temperature, high pressure condition, reacting the generated CO2-containing gas in a reaction tower charged with a heavy metal catalyst under a specific condition and subsequently taking out the generated low CO2 gas 1 CONSTITUTION:In the coal liquefaction method comprising subjecting a coal slurry 2 to a liquefying reaction 3 with a reducing gas (hydrogen gas) under a high temperature, high pressure condition to produce a liquid oil 4, taking out the CO2-containing gas 5 generated under the high temperature and high pressure and subsequently reutilizing the gas 5, the CO2-containing gas 5 is supplied to a reaction tower 6 charged with a heavy metal catalyst such as chromium oxide and reacted under conditions comprising a temperature of 300-400 deg.C and a pressure of 100-200kg/cm . The generated low CO2 concentration gas 7 is taken out and reutilized as a fuel gas and as the reducing gas in the coal-liquidization process, thereby permitting to reduce the content of CO2 in the generated gas, contribute to a countermeasure for preventing the earth- warming phenomenon and efficiently liquefy the coal.

    • PURPOSE: To provide a method of liquefying coal whereby the amount of heteroatom compounds produced can be reduced by determining the relationship between the N and S contents of a middle oil and those of a solvent and using an aromatic compound having a specified ring structure as the solvent which reduces the N and S contents of the middle oil to at least the target values. CONSTITUTION: A liquefied coal heavy oil having a boiling point of 350-538 deg.C is hydrogenated to prepare a bi- to tetra-cyclic aromatic compound having specified N and S contents determined from the relationship between the N and S contents of a middle oil and a solvent under the same operating conditions, and this compound is used as the solvent. A coal powder prepared so as to have a grain size of about 100 mesh or below and a water content of about 1.5wt.% is mixed with a synthetic iron sulfide catalyst and the prepared solvent to prepare a slurry. A reducing gas such as H2 is blown into the slurry, and the mixture is subjected to a liquefaction reaction under applied pressure and heat. The formed liquefied coal oil is distilled to obtain a light oil having a boiling range from ordinary temperature to 220 deg.C, a heavy oil of a boiling range from 350 to 538 deg.C, distillation residues, and a middle oil having N and S contents of at least the target values (N: 1.0% or below, and S: about 0.05% or below).

    • PURPOSE: To obtain a high-concentration slurry by continuously adding coal and a catalyst to a solvent until the resulted slurry comes to have a target viscosity, while applying ultrasonic waves thereto and measuring the viscosity thereof, subsequently stopping the addition, restarting the addition when the viscosity reaches an inflection point, and repeating the above procedure. CONSTITUTION: A solvent 2 is introduced into a slurry preparation tank 4 and sent to a gas/liquid contacting apparatus 7, where the solvent is mixed with an inactive gas, e.g. N2 . The solvent is then fed to an ultrasonic wave applicator 8 with a circulating pump 12. After ultrasonic waves are applied to the solvent, it is circulated to the tank 4. Finely powdered coal 1 and a catalyst 3, e.g. iron sulfide, are then fed to the tank 4. The resulted mixture is circulated through the circulation line with stirring and application of ultrasonic waves. Thus, a slurry is prepared. During the circulation, the slurry viscosity is measured with viscometers 13 and 13' before and after the ultrasonic application. The addition of the coal 1 and the catalyst 3 is continued until the slurry viscosity reaches a target value. The addition is then stopped. The addition is restarted at the time when the slurry viscosity has decreased to an inflection point, and is then continued until the slurry viscosity reaches a target value. Repeating the above procedure gives a high-concentration slurry having evenness of viscosity.

    • PURPOSE:To liquefy coal at high conversion in high yields by irradiating a coal slurry prepared by mixing feed coal with a solvent and a catalyst with a radiation and subjecting the irradiated slurry to a coal liquefaction reaction in a reducing gas atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:A coal slurry is obtained by feeding a coal slurry obtained by mixing dried feed coal with a solvent in a solvent/coal weight ratio of 1.0-4.0 and 0.5-5wt.%, based on dry coal, fine catalyst particles having a content of 16mum or smaller particles of 90% or above to a preparation tank 9, and mixing the mixture at 40-100 deg.C under a pressure of 1-10 atm in an inert gas atmosphere. The obtained slurry is sent to an irradiator 42 through a circulation pump 41 and a pipe 11 and is irradiated at a dose of 10 -10 R at 40-100 deg.C under a pressure of 1-10 atm. This slurry is pressurized with a high-pressure pump 12 to 100-200 atm, heated with a heater 16 to 350-450 deg.C, fed to a coal liquefaction tower 10 and subjected to a coal liquefaction reaction at 400-500 deg.C for 40-80min in a reducing gas atmosphere.
