    • PURPOSE:To accurately measure steel plate breadth without any need of an illuminant as an auxiliary facility by detecting infrared radiated from a steel plate and calculating the breadth thereof from the detected value. CONSTITUTION:Infrared cameras 1 and 2 detect infrared radiated from a steel plate 3 with the breadthwise direction thereof taken as one dimension, and finds both ends of the steel plate 3. The cameras 1 and 2 are used as one- dimensional position sensors with horizontal scanning in a breadthwise direction. The surface temperature T of the steel plate 3 is measured with a radiation thermometer 4, and the wavelength of infrared corresponding to the temperature T is calculated and processed, thereby selecting the cut-on filter of the cameras 1 and 2 within a range optimum for the transmittance of the wavelength. This filter selection is automatically undertaken by a control device. When the steel plate 3 passes under the cameras 1 and 2, one-dimensional data of the steel plate 3 in a breadthwise direction is detected with the cameras 1 and 2. The end positions of the steel plate 3 are geometrically calculated from values detected with the two cameras 1 and 2, thereby calculating plate breadth W.

    • PURPOSE:To roll a steel plate including the shape of the steel plate so that its thickness is not below an objective thickness. CONSTITUTION:The fluctuation value of the allowable max. load so that the actual thickness of the steel plate at i-th pass is not below the lower limit value of the objective thickness of the steel plate is preliminarily determined with a process computer 20 and whether the load fluctuation value at the i-th pass is exceeded from the allowable max. load fluctuation value or not is discriminated with a AGC controller 17. The manipulated variable of an absolute value AGC is calculated with the AGC controller 17 by taking the allowable max. load fluctuation value as the load fluctuation value in the case of excess, and, on the other hand, taking the load fluctuation value as the upper limit value of the load fluctuation value in the case of not excess. The manipulated variable of the absolute value AGC calculated in the above-mentioned manner is outputted to a roll gap controller 19.
