    • An apparatus for use in compressing and conveying scrap metal or other blocks which includes a supporting chain comprising a plurality of segment chains releasably connected to each other by connecting pieces at both ends, a open ended tubular member forming press side walls and acting as a block carrier, and a base support provided with a groove for receiving the supporting chain. The supporting chain is secured to the bottom edge of the tubular member, and the tubular member is removably mounted on the support to receive the scrap which is pressed when the tubular member is mounted on the support. Upon removal of the tubular member, the supporting chain releasably supports the pressed block.

    • PURPOSE:To fix trunnion shafts of a converter and to make improvement in the perpendicular accuracy of the converter by crimping the projecting part on the lower side of a ring fitted and fixed into the extension shaft of the trunnion of the converter by means of piston rods of hydraulic cylinders disposed on the right and left thereof. CONSTITUTION:The trunnion shafts 2 of the converter 1 are freely rotatably supported by bearings 3. The one trunnion shaft 2 is further extended to form the extension shaft 2'. The ring 11 provided with the projecting part 10 is fitted and fixed onto this extension shaft 2'. Further, the hydraulic cylinders 12, 12' are disposed symmetrically on both right and left sides around this projecting part 10. After the converter 1 is erected after tilting, the trunnion shafts 2 are freely rotated and the converter 1 is stopped in the nearly perpendicular state by its own weight. The respective hydraulic cylinders 12, 12' mentioned above are then operated and the strokes thereof are fixed constant to press the front ends of the piston rods 13, 13' to the above-mentioned projecting part from the right and left. The perpendicularity of the converter 1 is finely adjusted in this way and the trunnion shafts 2 are fixed to enhance the perpendicular accuracy of the converter 1.
