    • AN ANTI-SKID SYSTEM FOR VEHICLES IS DISCLOSED HAVING A NOVEL WHEEL LOCK DETECTING APPARATUS FOR SUPPLYING BRAKE RELEASE SIGNALS. THE EXEMPLARY SYSTEM INCLUDES AN ACTUAL WHEEL SPEED VOLTAGE GENERATOR FOR GENERATING AN ACTUAL WHEEL SPEED VOLTAGE CORRESPONDING TO AN ACTUAL WHEEL SPEED AS WELL AS A REFERENCE WHEEL SPEED VOLTAGE GENERATOR FOR GENERATING A REFERENCE WHEEL SPEED VOLTAGE CORRESPONDING TO A REFERENCE WHEEL SPEED. THE REFERENCE WHEEL SPEED VOLTAGE EXISTS ACROSS A CAPACITOR AND DECREASES WITH A FIRST DISCHARGING TIME CONSTANT VALUE CORRESPONDING TO A FIRST PRESET DECELERATION VALUE. THE REFERENCE VOLTAGE STARTS DISCHARGING FROM AN INITIAL VALUE WHICH IS LOWER THAN THE ACTUAL WHEEL SPEED VOLTAGE WHEN THE RATE OF REDUCTION OF ACTUAL WHEEL SPEED VOLTAGE REACHES A VALUE CORRESPONDING TO SAID FIRST PRESET DECELERATION VALUE. A DIFFERENTIAL AMPLIFIER IS INCLUDED FOR PRODUCING AN OUTPUT SIGNAL TO REDUCE BRAKING PRESSURE WHEN SAID REFERENCE WHEEL SPEED VOLTAGE BECOMES HIGHER THAN AN ACTUAL WHEEL SPEED VOLTAGE. THERE IS ALSO A DETECTOR FOR DETECTING A PREDETERMINED VARIATION IN THE ACTUAL WHEEL SPEED VOLTAGE DURING A TIME STARTING FROM THE TERMINATION OF THE OUTPUT SIGNAL FROM SAID DIFFERENTIAL AMPLIFIER OR, IN OTHER WORDS, AFTER THE BRAKE RELEASE SIGNAL TERMINATES. A TIME CONSTANT SETTING DEVICE IS PROVIDED FOR SWITCHING THE DISCHARGING TIME CONSTANT CORRESPONDING TO SAID FIRST PRESET DECELERATION VALUE TO A SECOND DISCHARGING TIME CONSTANT VALUE CORRESPONDING TO A SECOND PRESET DECELERATION VALUE, WHICH IS SMALLER THAN THE FIRST. THE SWITCHING BETWEEN FIRST AND SECOND DISCHARGE TIME CONSTANTS IS CONTROLLED BY AN OUTPUT SIGNAL OF SAID DETECTOR TO THEREBY CONTROL THE REFERENCE WHEEL SPEED VOLTAGE GENERATOR, WHEREBY THE WHEEL LOCK DETECTING APPARATUS ACCURATELY DETECTS ANY TENDENCY OF THE WHEELS TO LOCK AND PRODUCES A BRAKING PRESSURE REDUCING SIGNAL TO ACTUATE A BRAKING PRESSURE MODULATOR THEREBY REDUCING BRAKING PRESSURE.

    • 1,274,985. Antiskid devices. TOYOTA JIDOSHA KOGYO K.K., and NIPPONDENSO K.K. 15 Oct., 1970 [18 Oct., 1969], No. 49078/70. Heading F2F. An antiskid device comprises a lock detector consisting of a wheel speed responsive tachogenerator 50, a reference wheel speed voltage generator and a differential amplifier 108 which generates a signal passed to a three way electromagnetic valve 70 controlling a brake pressure modulator 90 when the reference wheel speed voltage is higher than the wheel speed voltage, a pressure difference detector 200 generating a signal when pressure in a wheel cylinder 20, Fig. 2 (not shown), equals that of a master cylinder (30) which is fed to a control circuit which switches the reference voltage generator from a first to a second predetermined rate after the generation of a signal from the differential amplifier. In normal operation hydraulic fluid passes to a wheel cylinder through passages 91a, 92 and 91b of modulator 90. When a signal is generated indicating wheel lock a piston 72a of electromagnetic valve 70 is moved by energization of coil 79 to engage a partition 78b which closes communication between a port 76a connected to engine vacuum at 80 and port 76b connected to a chamber D of modulator 90, and causes chamber D to be connected to atmosphere through port 76b and a further port 75. Chamber D is separated from a chamber E, permanently connected to vacuum, by means of a diaphragm 97 which is thereby forced rightwardly against the action of spring 98 carrying with it a rod 95b on which a piston 95 is disposed, the latter causing the volume of a chamber c connected through passage 91b to the wheel cylinder to expand and relieve the brake pressure at that wheel. Further movement of the diaphragm causes a valve 93 to be seated at 91d to close communication between the master and wheel cylinder. Under normal conditions a capacitor 101 is charged through diode 102 by a wheel speed voltage applied by D.C. generator 50. The reference speed voltage across capacitor 101 is lower than the wheel speed voltage by the forward voltage drop in diode 102 and no release signal is generated by differential amplifier 108. When the wheel deceleration exceeds the first rate of the reference speed capacitor 101 discharges at the same rate as the first deceleration rate. When the wheel speed voltage becomes less than the reference speed voltage across transistor 101 a positive release signal is generated by amplifier 108, which is power amplified at 109 and applied to the coil of valve 70 for relieving brake pressure.

    • An antiskid device with clutch releasing means comprising a wheel speed-detection circuit adapted to convert the speed of a wheel into a DC voltage and provide a wheel speed voltage from said DC voltage, a reference wheel speed-establishing circuit adapted to store said DC voltage across a capacitor and discharge the stored charge in the capacitor with a time constant corresponding to a predetermined wheel deceleration to thereby produce a reference wheel speed, a circuit for comparing the wheel speed voltage from the wheel speed-detection circuit and the terminal voltage of said capacitor representing the reference wheel speed voltage from the reference wheel speed-establishing circuit to thereby detect the wheel deceleration, a relay circuit adapted to be actuated by the output from said comparator circuit to energize a braking force releasing solenoid valve, an AND circuit adapted to perform a logical operation on the output signal from the relay circuit and a signal produced by the opening and closing of a brake switch, a switch element actuated by the output from the AND circuit to energize a clutch-releasing solenoid, a holding circuit adapted for actuation upon the closing of said switch element to maintain the continued energization of the clutch-releasing solenoid even after the output from said AND circuit has ceased to exist, and a switch element to force the operation of the holding circuit to stop, whereby, as the deceleration of the wheels approaches a preset wheel deceleration, the braking force applied to the vehicle is intermittently released and simultaneously the clutch is released to uncouple the wheels and the engine such that the rotation of the wheels may be readily restarted, even on road surfaces, such as, a snowy frozen road surface where the friction coefficient between the wheel and the road is small, thereby effectively preventing the vehicle from skidding with locked wheels.
