    • PURPOSE:To provide such a fuel injection system as capable of improving the durability of a filter to be installed in space between a pressure-feed pump room and a fuel gallery. CONSTITUTION:A filter 8 consists of a small wire diameter and small hole central screen part installed at the central part, a large wire diameter and large hole fuel gallery side screen part connected to both side of the central screen part and a field chamber side screen part, and these lements are formed into an integral structure by means of resistance welding. This field chamber side screen part receives a spill wave, and this spill wave collides with the central screen part directly, thereby preventing this screen part from being deformed. A pressure-feed pump room 34 passes through a spill port 59 of an injection bore 50, upward spill passages 58, 38, a feed port 39, a downward spill passage, a feed changer 48 and a gallery interconnecting hole 49 in order and it is interconnected to a fuel gallery 102. The spill wave passes through the upward spill passages 58, 38, the feed port 39 and the downward passage in order and it acts on the filter 8 lying between the feed chamber 48 and the fuel gallery 102.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce NOx and noise without decreasing engine performance by setting an increasing rate of pressure in a pump chamber different in the beginning and the latter period of fuel injection so as to generate the pressure increasing rate lower in the beginning of injection and higher in the latter period of injection, and obtaining a rate of injection desired for an engine. CONSTITUTION:This fuel injection device 1 is constituted of a press-feed part 2 for press-feeding fuel, electromagnetic valve 3 for controlling an injection timing and an injection amount, nozzle 4 and an injection rate control part 5. The injection rate control part 5 is formed of a piston 14 fitted to a control cylinder 13 connected to a pump chamber 8, pressure chamber 15 formed in a point end side of the piston 14 and a communication path 16 for opening this pressure chamber 15 to a fuel route, and in the beginning of fuel injection, the piston 14 is pressed to a side of the pressure chamber 15 according to increasing a pressure in the pump chamber 8 to allow fuel in the pressure chamber 15 to flow out little by little through an orifice 20, so that the pressure in the pump chamber 8 is suppressed from increasing. In the latter period of fuel injection, the pressure in the pump chamber is increased by stopping the piston 14.

    • PURPOSE:To decrease pressure rising energy of a high pressure pump by maintaining common rail pressure at a level of pressure power upon judgement or by gradually decreasing it, when an engine load decreasing rate is judged less than a specified threshold value. CONSTITUTION:An electronic control unit 11 inputs signals from an engine speed sensor 11, an acceleration opening sensor 12, a real common rail pressure sensor 14, and respective kinds of sensors 15. The unit 11 also judges engine operation condition so as to control injection from an injector 2 by a solenoid valve 3, and controls the pressure of a common rail 4 by means of a discharge controller 10. When the load decreasing rate of an engine 1 is judged less than a specified threshold value, the pressure of the common rail 4 is maintained at a level of the pressure at the time of judgement for a specified time, or decreased gradually so as to control the discharge controller 10. In the case of increase in engine load, therefore, operation is made possible with the reduced pressure rising energy of a high pressure pump 7, and generation of vibration can be restrained.

    • PURPOSE:To improve dripping ability of fuel at injection and prevent occurrence of secondary injection by press-feeding the fuel from a press-feed pump chamber to a nozzle spring chamber while increasing a pressure in the nozzle spring chamber, and slowing fuel flow from the nozzle spring chamber by means of an orifice. CONSTITUTION:When a press-feed plunger 11 descends and a pressure in an injection pump chamber 30 reaches a nozzle opening valve pressure, a needle valve 44 is pressed up to start fuel injection from an injection port 46. After completion of the fuel injection, a pressure in a nozzle spring chamber is abruptly increased by fuel inflow into the nozzle spring chamber 34. The fuel, flowing out of the nozzle spring chamber 34 after completion of the fuel injection is flowed through a nozzle back pressure passage 50 to a drain port 33. The fuel flowing from the nozzle spring chamber 34 is restricted by means of an orifice 54, so that pressure decrease in the nozzle spring chamber 34 is moderated. It is thus possible to improve dripping ability of fuel at injection and prevent occurrence of secondary injection of the fuel.

CONSTITUTION:A press feed plunger 51 is driven from the top dead center to the bottom dead center by a cam synchronized with an engine, when the plunger 51 is shifted to the lower by a press stroke L, a spill passage 504 is closed by a side surface of the plunger 51. Consequently, communication between the inside of a pump chamber 52 and the inside of a spill chamber 54 is cut off, when the plunger 51 is further shifted to the lower, fuel in the pump chamber 52 is compressed in accordance with a shifting amount. Consequently, an internal pressure in the pump chamber 52 is increased in accordance with shifting the plunger 51, and fuel in the pump chamber 52 or the like is pressurized in proportion to a displacement amount of the plunger 51. A pressure of fuel in the pump chamber 52 or the like is increased by further shifting the plunger 51, when the internal pressure in the pump chamber 52 is increased to not less than the opening pressure of a nozzle 3, fuel injection is started from a jet hole 38.

CONSTITUTION:If no electric signal is transmitted from a control circuit to an electromagnetic coil 30 of a solenoid valve 23, a valve body 27 is forced upward by a spring 28, so that a large diameter portion 272 of the valve body 27 rests on a valve seat 40 to close an outlet passage 43. Therefore, fuel in a force feed pump chamber of a unit injector is pressurized, so that fuel is injected through a nozzle. Fuel fed under pressure through the cylinder outlet passage into a pressure chamber 32 acts on a bearing surface 274 of the valve body 27, so that the valve body 27 is urged to rest on the seat. The bearing surface area of the bearing surface 274 of the valve body 27 where the valve body 27 rests on the seat is formed larger than that of the other end surface 275 so as to conform the inner pressure in the pressure chamber 32 with that in the back pressure chamber 35.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce the generation of noise during low load running, by a method wherein the injection factor of feed fuel is controlled in response to a combustion noise detecting signal. CONSTITUTION:When it is decided by a controller 16 that a diesel engine 10 is in an idle running state, a final pilot injection control timing T, obtained by correcting a fundamental pilot injection control timing, responding to the number of revolutions, depending upon a cooling water temperature, is computed to drive a pilot injection device 14. Thereafter, at a point of time when a given time lapses, the pilot injection control timing T is staggered by DELTAT to the lead angle side or the angle of delay side, integrated values of combustion noise detected by combustion noise sensors 15 at each point of time are compared with each other. A fundamental pilot injection control timing is corrected by DELTAT in a direction in which the discriminated noise is decreased. Since this constitution enables the pilot injection control timing to be corrected so that it approaches an optimum value changed due to a change with time of a device, the generation of noise during idle running can be reduced.

The fuel whose injection amount and injection timing are adjusted is injected from a nozzle part 13 by the pressurizing action of the plunger 16. A compression coil spring 28 inserted in the outer periphery of the guide pipe 25 energizes the follower 17 in its coming-off direction. The under plate 32 of a follower coming-off preventing member 30 is constructed so as to be locked in a ring groove 35, and a hook 33 is constructed so as to be locked on the top surface of the follower 17.
