摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preform for a metal-based composite material of porous structure by replacing part of a heat-resistant fiber by inorganic particles so that a molten metal matrix can be easily impregnated. SOLUTION: Heat-resistant fibers are divided into smaller diameter inorganic fibers of 2-5 μm mean fiber diameter and of 10-200 μm mean fiber length and larger diameter inorganic fibers of 4-20 μm mean fiber diameter and 10-200 μm mean fiber length, inorganic particles of 1-50 μm mean grain size are dispersed in water together with a binder, placed in a mold, and dehydrated under reduced pressure. The inorganic particles are mainly captured by the smaller diameter inorganic fibers and are dispersed to prevent the inorganic particles from being densely filled in cavities of the larger diameter inorganic fibers. A preform for a metal-based composite material of porous structure is thus obtained in which formability by dehydration under reduced pressure is improved. A fiber-reinforced metal can be obtained from this porous structure in which the molten metal matrix can be easily impregnated and in which the abrasion resistance is improved by the inorganic particles.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder block which includes a cylinder liner formed of a fiber-reinforced metal composite material and which is excellent in abrasion resistance. SOLUTION: In the cylinder block in which a porous structure is adopted as a preform of a cylinder liner and a metal matrix is impregnated in the preform, the porous structure comprises inorganic particles of 1-50 μm mean grain size, smaller diameter inorganic fibers of 2-5 μm mean fiber diameter and 10-200 μm mean fiber length which mainly capture and disperse the inorganic particles in forming a formed body and larger diameter inorganic fibers of 4-20 μm mean fiber diameter and 10-200 μm mean fiber length which form cavities in combination with the smaller diameter inorganic fibers in forming the formed body.

SOLUTION: Glass balloon, alumina/silicafiver, mullite particles, and frit as inorganic binder are mixed, and the mixture is put in a popper 5d of an extrusion molding machine 5 and extrusion-molded, and a cylindrical perform, for example, of 138 mm in length, 95.1 mm in outside diameter, and 3.8 in wall thickness is made. The essential volume of the framework component of this preform is, for example, 16%. This preform is then set in a die-cast machine and die-casted. The wall thickness of the composite material obtained is reduced to 1.8 mm. The surface of this composite material is cut and then honed.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a valve which has sufficient hardness, and is superior in the practical use and productivity, by using titanium alloy as a material of a valve for an internal combustion engine, and forming a chrome nitride film on at least a shaft sliding part by a PVD method. SOLUTION: A valve 31 for an internal combustion engine comprises a valve part 31a, a stem (shaft sliding part) 31b, and a shaft-end part 31c, and an abrasion resisting chip is welded on the shaft-end part 31c as needed. On this occasion, titanium alloy is used as a material of the valve 31, and a chrome nitride (CrN) film of 3μm thickness and about 1000HV hardness, is formed on the surface by a PVD method (ion plating method). Whereby the evaporation speed is higher than the oxidation treatment, the adhesion is improved, the film thickness can be increased, and the practical use and the productivity can be improved. On the abrasion resistance, the abrasion can be reduced in comparison with that formed by the oxidation treatment even after the internal combustion engine is driven for a specific time under a specific test condition, that is, the durability can be improved.
