摘要： The present invention provides a space-saving and low-cost emergency power system, which can be installed on a narrow place having limited space and employs a battery that is long in service life and low in frequency of replacement. This emergency power system comprises a circuit having a DC load, a rectifier, and a battery, which are electrically connected to one another. This circuit is adapted so that normally, DC power is supplied from the rectifier to the DC load, and the battery is charged, and that in an emergency, such as a power failure, in which an outage of the rectifier occurs, electric power is automatically supplied from the battery to the DC load. In this system, a sodium sulfur battery is employed as the battery.

Die alkalische Sekundärbatterie enthält: eine Stapelzellenbatterie, in der mehrere Einzelzellenelemente mit einer Konfiguration einer alkalischen Sekundärbatterie gestapelt sind; und ein kastenförmiges Gehäuse aus Harz, in dem die Stapelzellenbatterie vertikal aufgenommen ist. Das kastenförmige Gehäuse weist einen Boden, ein Paar lange Seitenwände parallel zu der Stapelzellenbatterie, ein Paar kurze Seitenwände senkrecht zu der Stapelzellenbatterie und ein Deckelteil auf. Das Deckelteil weist einen empfindlichen Abschnitt mit einer kleineren Dicke als die anderen Abschnitte des Deckelteils auf, die Dicke des empfindlichen Abschnitts beträgt 0,1 bis 1,0 mm und ein Anteil einer Fläche des empfindlichen Abschnitts bezüglich einer Gesamtfläche des Deckelteils in einer Draufsicht beträgt 10 bis 40 %.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high power operation while maintaining high charge recovery performance by specifying the temperatures of a sodium-sulfur battery at starting a discharging step, at stating a charging step and through the charging step. SOLUTION: In a sodium-sulfur battery in which charging steps and discharging steps are repeated with resting steps therebetween, a battery system is operated so that the temperature of the battery at starting a discharging step can be 240-300 deg.C, the temperature of the battery at starting a charging step be 260-380 deg.C and the temperature of the battery through the charging step be kept at 260 deg.C or higher. A heating means and a control means to adjust its operation corresponding to the temperature of the battery are preferably used. It is desirable that set temperatures are 260-380 deg.C at finishing the discharging step and 240-300 deg.C at finishing the charging step or at the time when charged voltage arrives at a preset value in the charging step. In this way, the corrosion and deterioration of battery structural members are prevented, resulting in long-time operation.

Electrodes 9, 10 are piercedly arranged respectively through one side portion of and the other side portion of the vessel 1 on its short sides so that they are connected respectively to both sides of the block. A heater 11 is arranged on the inner bottom-face of the vessel 1, and it is formed by spirally winding four electric heating wires each made of 'Nichrome wire(R)' round the peripheral face of a plate-shaped insulating core member in its cross direction. Insulating thin-plates are arranged respectively on both faces of the core member. A soaked plate 25 made of aluminium excellent in heat conductivity is arranged on the top face of eahc of the thin plates.

The cells 6 are arranged in lines on the support plate 5 in such a manner that each of the lines is shifted by half of one block with respect to the adjoining lines, and corrugated portions 8 are provided at both side edges of the support plate 5 to correspond to the lines. With the plurality of blocks 4 enclosed in the container, one of the corrugated portions 8 of the support plate 5 is engaged with the corrugated portion 8 of the adjoining support plate 5. The corrugated portions 8 are passed through the gap between adjacent cells 6 and engaged with the support plate 5. Then the cells 6 can easily be installed and removed in a short time.
