    • A feeder house (30) for mounting a header (20) on a combine harvester base unit (11) is disclosed. This feeder house (30) comprises a front face assembly (75) mounted on the feeder house body portion (34) in a manner which permits both pivotal adjustment around a transverse pivot shaft (92) and generally longitudinal adjustment relative to said body portion (34). A cradle assembly (101) is pivotally attached to the front face assembly (75) for rotation generally about the direction of travel of the machine in a substantially vertically extending transverse plane. By connecting the header (20) to the feeder house (30) via the intermediary of this mounting assembly (70) consisting of said front face assembly (75) and said cradle assembly (101), the header (20) can be adjusted to both laterally float relative to the contour of the ground and change the cutting angle of the header cutting means relative to the ground through manipulation of the rotation of the cradle assembly (101) and the front face assembly (75) respectively. This arrangement also permits selective control of the relative positions of the header auger (23) and the forwardmost portion (43) of the path (42) of the apron conveyor (32) in the feeder house (30) to guarantee optimum transport of crop material from the header (20) to the feeder house (30).

    • In the field of agricultural machinery, there is a need to control the position of implements relative to eg. the ground with a high degree of accuracy. Previous arrangements for achieving this have suffered the disadvantage of providing false readings in the harsh conditions commonly encountered by agricultural equipment.
      The disclosure relates to an apparatus for controlling the position of a header (10) relative to the ground surface (17), the apparatus including one or more pivotable shoes (20) arranged to contact the ground and to move in dependence on changes in the ground contour.
      A further member (24) secured to such a pivotable shoe (20) includes a reflecting surface (26) remote from the point of contact of the shoe (20) with the ground surface (17). An emitter/receiver (29) is spaced from the reflecting surface (26) and connected to a control circuit whereby the position of the header (10) relative to the ground (17) may be measured by virtue of the position of the reflecting surface (26). The position of the header (10) relative to the ground surface (17) is then adjustable in dependence on the detected measurements, by means of various actuators (35,44,38,40) associated with the apparatus.
