    • A connector in which the longitudinal displacement of connection terminals is positively prevented even if electric wires are pulled rearwardly by an external force, so that the fitting property of the connector to a partner connector can be improved. In the connector according to the present invention, a plurality of solderless terminals (1) are chained to a carrier having feed holes (11), with each of the terminals having an electric-wire solderless contact portion (5) provided with a slot (4) for solderlessly connecting an electric wire. The terminals are severed from the carrier in such a manner that portions of feed holes (11) of the carrier remain in the rear end portions of the solderless terminals (1). Additionally, fitting portions (14) to be fitted into the feed holes (11) are formed on the bottom walls of a terminal holder (2) in which the terminals are received. Since the feed holes (11) are provided in the rear end portions of the solderless terminals (1), the strength of the solderless terminals (1) is not reduced. Furthermore, since the fitting portions (14) are provided so as to project from the bottom walls (12) of the terminal holder (2), the strength of the bottom walls (12) is likewise not reduced.

When the terminal retainer is moved backward from the complete engagement condition beyond the provisional engagement condition, the flexible retaining pieces ride onto projections of the connector housing to be displaced out of the locus of movement of the metal terminals being removed. The metal terminal can be easily removed from the connector housing without using any jigs.

    • A method for shifting a terminal which has been incompletely inserted into a terminal accommodating chamber of a connector housing of a connector for use in a wiring harness for motor vehicles to completely insert the terminal by the use of an inserted position correcting jig is provided. The method includes inserting a front end portion of the inserted terminal position correcting jig into an opening formed in a peripheral wall extending from a rear portion of the connector housing. The opening functions as a pivot center and has a correcting operation checking member therein to thereby shift the jig toward the housing pivoting on the opening. The jig is thus fitted with the rear end portion of the terminal which is still in an incompletely inserted state so as to shift the terminal to a completely inserted position and securely lock the terminal. Since the correcting operation checking member formed in the opening is removed when the front end portion of the jig is inserted, whether or not the correcting operation is perfectly done can be checked from outside by a removal or deformation of the correcting operation checking member.

    • A connection terminal is retained by a retaining lance which is a primary retaining member formed in a terminal receiving chamber. This displacement preventing member is inserted into the wire holding portion under the condition where the rear holder is locked. Accordingly, the rear holder is held between the side walls of the terminal receiving chamber and the displacement preventing member so that the secondary retaining member is surely prevented from being released from retaining.
