    • A silver halide photographic light-sensitive material containing a development inhibitor releasing compound, which is capable of forming a substantially colorless product, and which is represented by the following general formula (I): ##STR1## wherein X represents ##STR2## --SO.sub.2 R.sub.1, --SO.sub.2 OR.sub.1, --SO.sub.2 NH.sub.2, --SO.sub.2 NHR.sub.1, --SO.sub.2 N(R.sub.1).sub.2, --CN, --N.sup.+ (R.sub.1).sub.3 or ##STR3## R.sub.1 represents an aliphatic group, an aromatic group or a heterocyclic group and further two R.sub.1 groups can combine and represent an atomic group necessary to form, together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached, a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic group; R represents an aromatic group substituted with at least one of a nitro group, an acyl group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, a cyano group, a sulfamoyl group, a carbamoyl group, an aryloxycarbonyl group, an alkylsulfonyl group, an arylsulfonyl group, an alkoxysulfonyl group and an aryloxysulfonyl group; and Y represents a group capable of being released from the compound represented by the general formula (I) upon reaction with the oxidation product of a developing agent to provide an arylmercapto compound, a heterocyclic mercapto compound, a triazole compound, a benzotriazole compound or a naphthotriazole compound which has a development inhibiting effect.
