摘要： An anode/separator assembly for a capacitor is described. The capacitor includes a pellet of anode active material having opposed first and second major faces extending to a surrounding side wall and a separator enveloping the pellet. The separator is formed of a first sheet of separator material including a first central region contiguous with the first major face wall of the anode pellet and a first perimeter region folded in contact with the surrounding side wall of the anode pellet, and a second sheet of separator material including a second central region contiguous with the second major face wall of the anode pellet and a second perimeter region overlapping a portion of the first perimeter region of the first separator sheet. The first and second sheets of separator material are then sealed to each other at a seam formed at the overlap between them using the anode pellet surrounding sidewall as a backing surface for a heat sealing device.

摘要： A capacitor a casing of first and second casing members, a feedthrough electrically insulated from the casing and extending there from, first and second anodes electrically connected to each other within the casing, a cathode, and an electrolyte is described. The first anode is electrically connected in parallel to the second anode by a first anode wire having opposite ends contacting the respective first and second anodes. A feedthrough wire extending outside the casing and electrically isolated there from is electrically connected to the first anode wire intermediate the first and second anodes. The cathode is disposed between the first and second anodes.

In any event, the active coating has acceptable surface area for incorporation into an electrolytic capacitor, such as one having a tantalum anode.

摘要： An enclosure for an electrical energy storage device such as a wet tantalum electrolytic capacitor or an electrochemical cell such as a lithium/silver vanadium oxide cell is described. The enclosure comprises two metallic casing components or portions. The first is a drawn member having a planar face wall supporting a surrounding sidewall and is shaped to nest the anode, cathode and intermediate separator components. The surrounding sidewall has an annular flange at its outer periphery. A mating cover is a stamped planar piece of similar material whose periphery fits inside the annular flange or rim as a complementary piece.

摘要： An anode for an electrolytic capacitor is described. The anode is of a valve metal in powdered form, for example tantalum powder, that has been pressed into a pellet and sintered under a vacuum at high temperatures. Preferably, a poly(alkylene)carbonate binder is used to promote cohesion with the pressed powder body. The binder adds green strength to the pressed body and helps with powder flow before pressing. The poly(alkylene)carbonate binders are superior in that they leave virtually no residual carbon behind when burnt out during the sintering process. The pressed valve metal powder structure is then anodized to a desired voltage in a formation electrolyte to form a continuous dielectric oxide film on the sintered body as well as a terminal lead/anode lead weld extending therefrom.

摘要： Methods for testing the hermeticity of casings for power sources intended to power implantable medical device by sensing the presence of vapors escaping from an electrolyte contained therein are described. More broadly, the present leak detection methods are applicable to any sealed enclosure having a first part sealed to a second part with a liquid contained therein. The liquid need not occupy the entire volume of the enclosure, but must contain at least one component having a vapor pressure at 25° C. of more than about 0.1 mm Hg. This component can assist in the functioning of the device such as an electrolyte, or be added for the sole purpose of leak detection.
