SOLUTION: This piston ring 20 is structured with at least two rings 21, 23, which are attached to a ring groove 11 formed on the outside circumference of a piston 10 by being stacked in the vertical direction and whose outside circumferential surfaces contact a cylinder bore. The upper and lower rings 21, 23 are formed so as to block a gap of each abutment part entirely by the corresponding rings in the vertical direction of the piston 10 when that abutment parts of the two rings do not overlap. They are also formed so as to block at least a part of the gap of the abutment part of the upper ring 21 by the lower ring 23 and to block at least a part of the gap of the abutment part of the lower ring 23 by the upper ring in the vertical direction of the piston 10 when the abutment parts of the two rings overlap.

Elastic resins 35a, 35b having thicknesses not exceeding the opposing end faces 21a, 21b at normal temperatures are integrally joined to bottom parts of the recessed parts 30a, 30b, respectively.

The inside ring 6 is the resin ring having tension raised by thermal expansion in the abutment state of the joints, and is made of the resin material in which resin has the substantially constant elastic modulus according to a temperature. The intermediate ring may be made of the resin material having the inflection point for rapidly dropping the elastic modulus of the material at the certain fixed temperature or the resin material for lowering the elastic modulus due to a temperature rise.

SOLUTION: The assembled piston ring 4 comprises an outer peripheral ring 5, and an inner peripheral ring 6 arranged on an inner peripheral side of the outer peripheral ring. The outer peripheral ring 5 has a slant face 7 on an inner peripheral face in which thickness in a radial direction is decreased from its lower face to an upward direction, and the inner peripheral ring 6 has a slant face 8 on an outer peripheral face in which thickness in a radial direction is increased from its lower face to an upward direction. A slant angle of slant faces 7 and 8 of the inner and outer peripheral rings 5 and 6 is the same, and the inner and outer peripheral rings 5 and 6 keep in contact with the slant faces 7 and 8. The outer peripheral ring 5 is made of a metal material, and the inner peripheral ring 6 is made of a resin material. A slant angle of the slant faces 7 and 8 of the inner and outer peripheral rings 5 and 6 is less than 45°. Thus, the assembled piston ring has a structure increasing tension caused by thermal expansion while companion faces of the inner peripheral ring 6 are brought into contact with each other.
