    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring system and a maintenance work start reporting method, capable of reliably reporting a start of a maintenance work to a work management server.SOLUTION: A monitoring system includes: a monitoring device monitoring a monitoring object device provided with an inspection switch switching the states between a normal state and an inspection state; a terminal device performing communications to/from the monitoring device; and a work management server managing works of the monitoring device for the monitoring object device. The terminal device includes a maintenance person number memory part including a halt state and an active state, accessible from the monitoring device even in a halt state of the terminal device, and storing a maintenance person number of a maintenance person using the terminal device. The monitoring device includes a work start reporting part reading the maintenance person number from the maintenance person number memory part of the terminal device present in the vicinity of the monitoring device and reporting the read maintenance person number to the work management server when the inspection switch is switched from the normal state to the inspection state.
