    • The invention includes methods for forming, configuring, and managing a dynamic wireless network. A dynamic wireless network may be formed from at least one wireless node. The dynamic wireless network uses a Role Assignment Protocol (RAP) adapted for assigning one or more roles to each of the at least one wireless node. The dynamic wireless network uses a Network Configuration Protocol (NCP) adapted for configuring each of the at least one node at least according to the assigned role(s). A dynamic wireless network may be modified in response to one or more conditions, such as a wireless node joining the dynamic wireless network, a wireless node leaving the dynamic wireless network, wireless nodes moving within the dynamic wireless network, and the like. A dynamic wireless network may be split into multiple dynamic wireless networks and, similarly, multiple dynamic wireless networks may merge to form one dynamic wireless network.

    • A system and method for segmenting, distributing and replacing streaming multimedia clips in a network system including at least one origin server connected to a plurality of streaming caches via an interactive distribution network, such as the Internet. The at least one origin server stores a plurality of streaming multimedia clips in an associated memory and segments the clips into a plurality of data segment of exponentially increasing size; the origin server then distributes the plurality of data segments to the plurality of streaming caches where each streaming cache decides whether to store or discard each segment in accordance with a predefined probability. Another aspect of the invention involves replacing stored data segments at each of the plurality of streaming caches as needed. In one embodiment, a hotness rating is computed for each streaming multimedia clip stored in an SC. Clips are replaced as needed based on their hotness rating relative to other clips. In a second embodiment, a potential function is computed for each segment stored in an SC. Segments are replaced as needed based on their potential function value relative to other stored segments.

    • According to a disclosed method, an MME in a network analyzes KPIs from the cells it serves and based on the KPIs, it decides to engage in sharing. The MME then contacts a sharing entity (SE) to announce that it wants to borrow or to supply resources. The MME obtains terms of a sharing agreement from the SE and the MME obtains the identity of the other network. In response to this information, the MME configures its network elements to share. The MME's own network may be a supplier or a borrower. If the network is a supplier, the MME configures its base stations to support UEs subscribing to the other network. If the network is a borrower, the MME configures its UEs to accept service from the other network's base stations. The SE applies knowledge of network topology and of services offered. This knowledge is obtained from a sharing database. At the expiration of the sharing agreement, the SE tells the MMEs to deactivate the sharing agreement.
