    • A precompression metering pump of the prior art which is otherwise particularly advantageous, is nevertheless difficult to prime because of the high degree of compressibility of the air it initially contains in its pump chamber. The present invention improves this aspect of metering pump operations. It consists in providing additional resilient means (20) and at least one cylindrical part (10) level with the conventional outlet non-return valve of the pump and constituting a second outlet non-return valve. In a particular embodiment, the resilient means and the cylindrical part are received one above the other in the outlet channel (33) of the pump actuator rod (31). To do this, they bear respectively against a choking step (32) in the form of a lug and a shoulder (34) presented by said channel. In normal operation, the differential piston (4) of the pump moves out of the way so that operation takes place as in a prior art precompression metering pump. However, when priming, by pushing the actuator rod (31) fully home, as is made possible by the invention, the part (10) is moved away from the choking step (32). This improvement thus enables the air which was initially contained in the pump chamber (23) to be expelled to the atmosphere.

    • A prior art precompression metering pump which incorporates a differential piston forming part of the pump chamber inlet valve and its outlet valve is difficult to prime, especially in the case of metering paste products. In the improved pump there is disposed between the differential piston and the main piston of the pump a collar consisting of a ring from which project substantially axial tongues which are slightly inwardly inclined and each provided with a head. The collar moves inside the pump body so that normal operation proceeds as if it were not present. To prime the pump, however, the user depresses the collar until it contacts a step on the pump body. The tongues then bend so that their heads, interposed between the two pistons, move the latter apart (by a wedging effect or by a lever arm effect, or by a combination of the two). This is followed by mechanical opening of the pump chamber outlet valve whereby the air initially contained in the pump chamber escapes to the exterior.

    • The present dispenser device is designed in particular for eye treatment and comprises a pump body including a pump chamber, a piston slidable within the chamber and extended beyond the chamber by a rod pierced by a channel capable of communicating with the chamber, and an endpiece fixed to the rod and having a dispensing orifice in line with the channel of the rod. In addition to the above conventional items, the dispenser has a chamber admission valve which is constituted by co-operation between the enclosure defining the pump chamber and the piston which engages therein or projects therefrom as the case may be. The co-operation is preferably via a sealing lip. This disposition makes it possible to dispense a drop whose volume as determined by the capacity of the chamber is very small. In addition, the piston is returned to its rest position with the admission valve closed by resilient means disposed between the pump body and the endpiece. This guarantees that only drop is dispensed at a time. Finally, an outlet valve is placed between the end of the channel in the rod and the dispensing orifice of the endpiece in order to ensure that a dispensed drop is slightly precompressed. The dispenser device is advantageously integrated in a dispenser assembly comprising a supply of substance to be dispensed together with a housing facilitating actuation of the assembly by a user. Some designs of assembly are particularly attractive, from the economic point of view, with respect to the process of being filled with the substance to be dispensed.
