    • Isolated mammalian Mus81-Eme endonuclease complexes comprise an Mus81 protein portion and an Eme protein portion. A method of identifying a chemical compound that modulates mammalian cellular response to DNA damage comprises contacting a chemical compound to be tested with a biochemical mixture containing an isolated mammalian Mus81-Eme1 endonuclease complex, a source of magnesium ion, and a suitable DNA substrate; measuring the activity level of mammalian Mus81-Eme endonuclease complex in the mixture; comparing the measured activity level to the activity level of a substantially similar mixture of isolated Mus81-Eme1 endonuclease, magnesium ion, and DNA substrate in the absence of the chemical compound to be tested; and selecting a chemical compound that increases or decreases the endonuclease activity. Isolated mammalian Eme1 and Eme2 proteins derived from humans and murine species and isolated nucleic acids encoding the proteins are also described.

    • A media server for use in networks where media are transmitted in packet form comprises at least one card shelf containing at least one bus controller card, at least one other card such as a media processor card, and a backplane. The backplane includes a media bus group. Each packet has a routing header added to it. The data is optionally sent over a single media bus to a single card, or to a plurality of different cards. Framing information and clock pulse strings are passed to each card over the backplane. Each card is assigned an address, so that data sent from each card has a source address which is identified each time that card wishes to send data elsewhere. Also, data that is being addressed to each card will include the respective destination address of that card in its routing header. A failed card or bus can be sensed and isolated by the bus controller card, and packets will continue to be transmitted to the remaining cards over the remaining buses. In the case where a redundant bus controller is present, the redundant bus controller can detect errors, and take the active bus controller card out of service, and then become the active bus controller itself.

    • Transfer and inserter tooling for receiving coil windings from a coil winder such as a shed winder, and for inserting the coils into a dynamoelectric component such as a motor stator. The tooling includes a transfer tool molded of plastic and providing a cylindrical array of cantilever-supported fingers. The coils formed on the winder are positioned in a predetermined arrangement within the spaces between the fingers. Also included is an inserter tool having a cylindrical array of cantilever-mounted fingers and operable to insert coils positioned within the spaces between the fingers into the slots of a stator and the like. The transfer tool and inserter tool fingers are provided with interfitting alignment and guide means which properly position associated fingers of the two tools when the tools are assembled for transfer of the coils from the transfer tool to the inserter tool. The alignment and guide means operate to accurately align associated fingers even when the fingers of the transfer tool are displaced from their proper aligned positions by the windings carried therebetween.

    • A multidimensional equilateral angular game playing apparatus and method include electronically controlled, life-sized obelisk "opponents" in the vertex of each angle. A sound generator and multiple lighted targets are mounted upon variously angled surfaces of each obelisk so that a target becomes momentarily active when its light is illuminated and a sound generator mounted upon the obelisk holding the target is actuated. The sequence of targets presented to a player and the time duration of each activation may be selected in a random manner by electronic controls. A single player strikes activated targets using thrusting and sweeping motions of a double-sided, padded playing staff. Upon successfully striking a target, the sound generator upon which obelisk the target is mounted emits a tone verifying the success of the strike, a point is added to a total sum of successful strikes, the target is deactivated and the next target is immediately presented to the player. Therefore, the speed of the game changes according to the reaction time of each individual player. A score of successful target strikes and total number of targets presented are displayed to the player. Physical agility and stamina, mental concentration and an indomitable spirit are tested and cultivated by the game.
