    • A method of controlling a data unit sender is described. A flow control procedure for controlling the flow of data units sent by said data unit sender is conducted in dependence on acknowledgement messages from the receiver The flow control procedure utilizes (S103) at least one output limiting parameter (olp; cwnd) for placing a limit on the data units sender's current data send rate. A procedure is provided for detecting (S110) a data unit loss indication, in response to the detection of a data unit loss indication, performing (S311) a retransmission, subsequent to said retransmission (S311) waiting (S312) for an acceptable acknowledgment message carrying the sequence position identifier indicative of said data unit indicated as potentially having been lost, and distinguishing (S317) whether said acceptable acknowledgment message relates to an original transmission, and in response to distinguishing that said acceptable acknowledgment message does not relate to said original transmission, performing (S318) a congestion response step, while in response to distinguishing that said acceptable acknowledgment message relates to said original transmission, said output limiting parameter is adapted (S319) based on one or more duplicate acknowledgment messages received since receiving the last acceptable acknowledgment message that precedes the acceptable acknowledgment message carrying the sequence position identifier indicative of said data unit indicated as potentially having been lost.

    • A method is described for controlling the conformance of a data flow in a communication system to a traffic definition. The communication system comprises a transmitter and a receiver and data packets transporting the data flow are sent from the transmitter to the receiver. The receiver sends responses identifying received data packets to the transmitter, and the transmitter comprises a control function which controls the number of sent data packets for which no response is received according to a limit for the number of outstanding data packets. In the method, a conditioning criterion is obtained for the data flow, the conditioning criterion being associated with the traffic definition. The receiver determines a conformance parameter for the received data packets transporting the data flow. The limit and/or the sending of the responses is modified according to the conditioning criterion and the determined conformance parameter for controlling the number of transmitted data packets. A receiver and a software program embodying the invention are also described.

    • A method of controlling the flow of an amount of data from a sending peer to a receiving peer of a predetermined communication protocol is described. The method comprises dividing the amount of data into a plurality of data segments, where the data segments are ordered in a sequence. The segments are sent to the receiving peer in the order of said sequence. The receiving peer acknowledges the correct receipt of a data segment and identifies the last correctly received data segment of the sequence that was received in the proper order of the sequence. The sending peer is arranged such that if it receives a threshold number of duplicate acknowledgements, it performs a retransmission. The threshold number that trigger a retransmission is an adaptive parameter determined based on the size of a receive window, the size of the receive window representing a number of data segments which can be stored in a buffer space at the receiving peer.
