摘要： A wireless device, such as a remote control unit, may include an internal fingerprint identification unit. The fingerprint identification unit may be arranged to capture the user's fingerprint when the user's finger is positioned over a button that is substantially radiation transmissive. Radiation directed at the user's finger through the button may be captured for image analysis and ultimately for fingerprint identification. Thus, the device may be used to identify users who wish to access a processor-based system such as a processor-based television receiver.

摘要： An apparatus, compositions and related methods for sequencing a target nucleic acid are described. In certain embodiments, the apparatus is a microfluidic apparatus comprising an input chamber, microchannel, output chamber and a detection unit that is operatively connected to the microchannel. In preferred embodiments, the methods include hybridizing a target nucleic acid to one or more probe libraries, moving the hybridized target nucleic acid past the detector, and detecting bound probes. Probe libraries may comprise oligonucleotides or oligonucleotide analogs, preferably with each probe uniquely labeled. A linear order of labeled probes hybridized to the target nucleic acid can be detected and the target nucleic acid sequence deduced. In preferred embodiments, probe labels are detected by analysis of electron-induced fluorescence of probes labeled with conductive polymers.

摘要： The methods and compositions disclosed herein concern highly diverse, novel labels comprising carbon nanotubes of discrete lengths and/or diameters. The nanotube labels may be attached to oligonucleotide or similar probes for use in DNA sequencing. Upon excitation, for example by an electron beam or UV laser, the carbon nanotubes exhibit distinguishable emission spectra. The uses of nanotube labels are not limited to DNA sequencing, but rather are of value in any application where large numbers of distinguishable labels are of use. Novel methods for production of carbon nanotubes and apparatus for detection of nanotubes are also disclosed herein.

摘要： In certain embodiments of the invention, a plurality of images of one or more subjects may be captured using different imaging techniques, such as different modalities of scanning probe microscopy. Parameters may be estimated from the plurality of images, using one or more models of known molecular structures to provide a model-based analysis. The estimated parameters may be fused, with further input from physical models of known molecular structures. The fused parameters may be used to characterize the subjects. Such characterization may include the detection and/or identification of specific molecular structures, such as proteins, peptides and/or nucleic acids of known sequence and/or structure. In some embodiments of the invention the structural characterizations may be used to identify previously unknown properties of a subject molecule.

摘要： In embodiments of the present invention, the electric field of a focused laser beam induces a dipole in a single-walled carbon nanotube. The single-walled carbon nanotube has one or more resonant frequencies. When the frequency of the laser beam is less than a resonance frequency of the single-walled carbon nanotube, the single-walled carbon nanotube may be trapped and the laser beam may move the single-walled carbon nanotube from a first microfluidic laminar flow to a second microfluidic laminar flow. When the frequency of the laser beam is higher than a resonant frequency of the single-walled carbon nanotube, the single-walled carbon nanotube may be repelled and the laser beam may not move the single-walled carbon nanotube.
