    • An optical system having a light guide (3) and a reflector (6) is described. The light guide transports, during use, light from a first end (30) to a second end (31) of the light guide. The light guide has an entrance surface (2) at the first end for allowing incident light to enter the light guide at an entrance axis (8). The light guide further has a coupling element (5) at the second end for coupling light out of the light guide at a coupling axis (9) for illuminating the reflector. The light guide further has a solid rod-like guiding section (32) for guiding light entered in the light guide from the first end to the coupling element. The rod-like guiding section has one or more bends (33,34). Each light ray of the light guided to the coupling element is reflected in the bend (s) one or more times. The reflector receives light coupled out of the light guide and reflects the received light for providing a directed beam at a beam axis (9).

    • A light-emitting diode comprises a chip emitting visible light of a first wavelength, a light-emitting surface and a phosphor layer provided on the light-emitting surface. Said phosphor layer is capable of converting light of the first wavelength to visible light of a second wavelength. According to the invention, a part of the light-emitting surface is not covered with the phosphor layer. Preferably, the size of said surface is chosen to be such that by mixing emitted light of the first and the second wavelength substantially white light is obtained. Preferably, the surface that is not covered with the phosphor layer comprises a plurality of sub-surfaces, preferably arranged in the form of a pattern.

At least one light source comprising a light-emitting diode is provided with a translucent lens-shaped cover. The system has at least one light input structure for coupling light from the light source into the light-emitting panel. According to the invention the light input structure is conically or frustoconically shaped towards the light source.
