    • An antitheft apparatus for a motor vehicle can allow operation of an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle to be started notwithstanding of decision of discrepancy in an engine start enabling signal ascribable to transient error in communication between a code collating means and an engine start decision means. An identification code stored in an engine key (1) is read out upon every starting of operation of the motor vehicle to be collated with a preset identification code to thereby make decision as to whether or not both of the identification codes coincide with each other. Upon decision of coincidence, the identification code as read out is affixed with a rolling code which is updated every time the engine of the motor vehicle is operated, to thereby generate an engine start enabling signal. Means are provided for sending the engine start enabling signal and for generating the rolling code. The rolling code as generated is sent to the rolling code adding means (30b). Decision is made as to coincidence between the identification code contained in the engine start enabling signal and the preset identification code, wherein upon detection of coincidence of the identification codes, the rolling code contained in the engine start enabling signal is collated with the rolling code generated by the rolling code generating means, to thereby output the engine start enabling signal to engine starting means upon detection of coincidence between the rolling codes.

    • A failure detecting apparatus for an anti-skid brake control system of a motor vehicle comprises a main microcomputer for generating a hydraulic pressure control signal for controlling an actuator adapted to generate braking efforts to be applied to wheels of the motor vehicle, an auxiliary microcomputer for detecting occurrence of a failure in the main microcomputer on the basis of the hydraulic pressure control signal, a test signal generating means implemented in the main microcomputer or the auxiliary microcomputer to generate a test signal, an anti-skid brake control arithmetic means incorporated in the main microcomputer to generate a hydraulic pressure control signal on the basis of either a wheel speed signal or the test signal, and a hydraulic pressure control signal monitoring means implemented in the auxiliary microcomputer to monitor the hydraulic pressure control signal generated in response to the test signal, to thereby check the validity of the hydraulic pressure control signal. An anti-skid brake control system equipped with a self-diagnosis function can be implemented inexpensively.

    • An improved support apparatus such as a suspension apparatus for a vehicle is disclosed which has excellent response characteristics, can save power consumption and has excellent vibration-isolating capacity for isolating the transmission of high-frequency vibrations from a support member such as a road wheel to an object such as the body of a vehicle. To these end, in one embodiment, a linear motor is disposed between the object and the support member for telescopically supporting the object under magnetic effects. A position sensor senses the position of the object relative to a reference position. A low-pass filter filters high-frequency components of the output signal of the position sensor above a prescribed upper frequency limit. Based on the output signals of the position sensor and the low-pass filter, the current supply to the linear motor is controlled in such a manner as to offset a change in the output signal of the low-pass filter. In another embodiment, an elastic member is further disposed between the object and the support member in parallel with the linear motor for elastically supporting the object on the support member. A high-pass filter filters low-frequency components of the output signal of the position sensor below a prescribed lower frequency limit. Based on the output signal of the high-pass filter, a correction is calculated for offsetting a change in the operating force of the elastic member. The current supply to the linear motor is controlled based on a change in the output signal of the low-pass filter and the correction thus calculated.
