    • There is provided a technique for introducing grafted side chains having a narrow molecular weight distribution onto a molded organic polymer substrate, for example polyolefin substrate, while maintaining the form of the substrate. One aspect of the present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a grafted material, comprising the steps of (a) irradiating an organic polymer substrate with ionizing radiation, and then bringing a polymerizable monomer and a polymerization initiating group-introducing agent into contact with the substrate, thus introducing grafted side chains having polymerization initiating groups on ends thereof onto trunk polymer of the substrate, and (b) then bringing a polymerizable monomer into contact with the substrate, thus causing the grafted side chains to grow.

    • A protective semiconductor apparatus for protecting an assembled battery including N secondary cells connected in series includes a disconnection detecting circuit including, for each of the N secondary cells, a voltage-sensing resistor dividing a voltage of a corresponding one of the secondary cells, a reference voltage, and a first comparator comparing a voltage obtained by the voltage-sensing resistor with the reference voltage. The protection semiconductor apparatus also includes a circuit connecting an internal resistor having a resistance value smaller than a resistance value of a corresponding one of the voltage-sensing resistors in parallel to the corresponding voltage-sensing resistors successively and selectively at predetermined time intervals. The disconnection detecting circuit detects disconnection between the N secondary cells and the protective semiconductor apparatus based on an output from the first comparator when the internal resistor is connected in parallel to the corresponding voltage-sensing resistor.

    • A protection device includes a voltage detector having N or more sub-circuits each for monitoring a specific battery cell to output a detection signal when at least one of the battery cells outputs an abnormal voltage. Each sub-circuit includes voltage dividing resistors, a reference voltage generator, and a comparator. The voltage dividing resistors generate a voltage division signal by dividing an output voltage of the battery cell. The reference voltage generator generates a reference voltage. The comparator compares the voltage division signal against the reference voltage. Each comparator is powered with voltage across the battery cell associated with the sub-circuit.
