摘要： An electro-magnetic mechanism comprises a spring-operated rod (1) having a recess (1a) and a latching member (2) engageable in the recess to block motion of the rod. A release member (4) retains the latching member engaged in the recess (1a) in a first position of the release member and allows the latching member to be disengaged from the recess in a second position of the release member (4). A magnet (5) retains the release member in the first position and the mechanism includes means such as a spring (7) for urging the release member (4) to the second position. A coil (8) is arranged to demagnetise the magnet (5) at least such that the release member moves to the second position, the latching member (2) is disengaged from the recess (1a) and the rod (1) moves axially by spring force.

摘要： A fluid working machine comprises a working chamber of cyclically varying volume, a high pressure manifold, and an actuated high pressure valve for regulating the flow of fluid between the working chamber and the high pressure manifold. The actuated high pressure valve comprises a moveable valve member, operable between a closed position and at least one open position. A controllable opening mechanism provides an active urging force to urge the moveable valve member from the said closed position towards at least one said open position, the volume of the working chamber varying between a maximum volume and a minimum volume. The controllable opening mechanism provides the active urging force more than once while the volume of the working chamber is intermediate the maximum of chamber volume and the minimum of chamber volume.

摘要： An energy extraction device and method for extracting energy from a fluctuating energy flow from a renewable energy source. A hydraulic pump is driven by a rotating shaft, driven in turn by a renewable energy source. A hydraulic motor drives a load and a high pressure manifold communicates between the pump, motor and an elastically deformable fluid retaining body. The hydraulic pump and hydraulic motor comprise working chambers displacing a volume of working fluid selectable on each cycle of working chamber volume by the control of electronic valves. The pressure in the high pressure manifold is measured and the net rate of displacement of working fluid by the hydraulic pump is selected responsive thereto to regulate the torgue applied to the said rotating shaft. The net rate of displacement of working fluid by the hydraulic motor is selected to smooth the energy flow to the load. The net rate of displacement of working fluid by the hydraulic motor is selected to cause the pressure within the high pressure manifold to tend towards an optimum. The optimum is variable and can be selected to optimise the efficiency of power transmission from the rotating shaft to the load or to increase the longevity of the energy extraction device.

A control system commands both the pump and the switching valves, so as to create valve state combinations to satisfy load conditions as demanded by an operator. The number of pump outlets (11, 12, 13, 14) connected to one or more of the loads (15, 16, 18, 20) is changeable to satisfy the flow required of the load due to the operator demand, each pump outlet being commanded to produce a flow depending on the status of other outlets connected a load to which the outlet is connected and the operator demand for that load.
