    • PURPOSE:To obtain products of pearlite base in an as-cast state in the stage of casting small-sized cylinder liners by the use of a sand mold core and an outside diameter die by specifying the wall thickness of the outside diameter die. CONSTITUTION:An outside diameter die 12 having the wall thickness equal to that of a cylinder liner 10 for small-sized engines is manufactured. Said die is preheated and held, and a sand mold core 14 is set at the center thereof. Molten metal for commonly used green sand molds is charged between the die 12 and the core 14. The molten metal begins to solidify by releasing the heat of solidification to the mold 12 and the core 14. Since the molten metal in contact with the core releases the heat very slowly on account of the heat insulation of the core, the greater part of the heat possessed by the molten metal flows to the die 12, then the die heats up quickly. Thus the quick cooling of the molten metal is prevented, and pearlite base is produced approximately 100%. The die 12 is opened in about 5-10sec after the charging of the molten metal is completed, and the solidified cylinder liner is removed together with the core 14.

    • PURPOSE:To shorten the tie for a carburizing operation without requiring a carburizing device and a carburizing agent by forming a mold coat by a mold coating liquid to the outside of foamed polystyrene, thereby constituting a specific expandable pattern. CONSTITUTION:The pattern 3 is formed of the formed polystyrene having at least 0.8 pond per square foot in density and the mold coating liquid having at least >=45Be concn. is used for the mold coat 4 to be coated on the outside thereof. A molten steel or steel alloy 8 passes a runner 5 through a sprue and arrives at the pattern 3 to gasify and expend the pattern 3 when the molten steel or steel alloy 8 is supplied to the sprue. The gas generated on the expenditure of the pattern 3 passes the layer of the mold coat 4 and emerges to the upper part of a flask 1 by passing the spacings of a packing material 2. However, a part of the gaseous hydrocarbon stays on the inner side of the mold coat 4 and exerts influence to the cast product. The carbon in said gas in particular penetrates to the inner side of the cast product in the mold and the carburization is effected upon lapse of time. Since the time for removing the mold coat 4 from the cast product after the casting is at least 5 minutes and, therefore, the carburized layer of at least 0.5mm depth from the outside surface of the product is obtd. by the carbon in the gas.

    • PURPOSE:To lighten a casting by arranging a sprue and runner to a lost foam pattern to form an embedding body, embedding this into non-combustible packing material charged in a flask, pouring molten metal, executing thermal decomposition of the lost foam pattern and replacing this with the molten metal. CONSTITUTION:A first and second branched tubes 4, 8 formed as bending with material lost by heating, are set at front and back sides and branched passages 2, 3 and branched pipe conduits 6, 7 in both branched tubes 4, 8, respectively are connected with flange 11 having the same material. As the same way, the passage and pipe conduit are connected with a second flange 12 to form the lost foam pattern 13. By arranging the sprue 16 and runner to this pattern 13, the embedding body 17 is formed and embedded into the non-combustible packing material 20 charged in the flask 19, and molten metal 22 is poured from the sprue 16. The molten metal reaches the pattern 13 and then, the thermal decomposition is executed to this and the molten metal is entered into the space generated in there and cast. As the shifting between a master mold and core is not developed, allowable space to the shifting of core can be neglected and the casting weight can be lightened by the corresponding weight. Further, as removal work of casting flash is unnecessary, the labor saving is attained.
