    • A fixation member component, for example, employed by a relatively compact implantable medical device, includes a plurality of fingers; each finger includes a first segment extending from a fixed end of the corresponding finger, and a second segment extending from the corresponding first segment to a free end of the corresponding finger. Each first segment is elastically deformable from a relaxed to an extended condition, and from the relaxed to a compressed condition, and includes a peripheral portion and a central cut-out portion, framed by the peripheral portion. In the compressed condition, a free tip of the cut-out portion of some or all of the fingers may lodge against opposing tissue surfaces, via a spring force of the compressed fingers. Each second segment and cut-out portion is preferably configured to prevent penetration thereof within tissue at the implant site.

    • A tissue penetrating fixation component for an implantable medical device, the component comprising a base portion (603) and at least one tine portion (630), the base portion defining a longitudinal axis and being configured to be fixedly attached to the medical device such that the longitudinal axis extends approximately parallel to a longitudinal axis of the device. The tine portion comprises a hook segment (631) and a distal segment (632) terminated by a tissue-piercing tip (622). The hook segment is pre-set to extend along a pre-set curvature that encloses an angle of between 135 degrees and 270 degrees, from a proximal end thereof, in proximity to the base portion, to a distal end thereof, and is elastically deformable from the pre-set curvature to an open position. The distal segment is pre-set to extend along a relatively straight line that is approximately tangent to the distal end of the hook segment, from the distal end of the hook segment to the tip. The hook segment (631) tapers from a first width (W1) thereof, in proximity to the proximal end thereof, to a smaller second width (W2) thereof, in proximity to the distal end thereof, and the tissue-piercing tip (622) of the tine portion has a width (W3) that is greater than the second width (W2) of the hook segment.
