    • 1387470 Induction heated cooking apparatus, inverters MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO 26 July 1972 [10 April 1972 (3) 11 April 1972 12 April 1972] 35004/72 Heading H2H and H2F [Also in Division H1] Cooking apparatus comprises a utensil 33 heated by means of an induction heating coil 31 carried below an electrically insulated non- metallic plate 57 the coil 31 being energized by way of an inverter fed from a rectified A.C. source 20, the power delivered to the coil 31 being controlled by an adjustable inductor 34 and all the components of the rectifying-inverting circuit being housed in a metallic screening device 58, 59 to eliminate interference with other electrical apparatus such as a radio. The inverter comprises an A.C. source 20, and a full wave rectifier 28 which produces D.C. on lines 24, 25 by means of which a capacitor 29 is charged when a thyristor 53 is gated on. When the thyristor 35 is gated on, the capactior 29 discharges and charges in an oscillatory fashion by way of an inductor 30 thus providing a high frequency supply for the induction coil 31. When a main switch 21 is closed a thyristor 52 is gated on and a capacitor 50 of a zero volts circuit 45 charges up over a resistor 48. When the capacitor voltage reaches a predetermined level a transistor 49 is triggered on to render the thyristor 52 non-conductive when the voltage thereacross falls to zero. On becoming non- conductive, thyristor 52 causes thyristor 54, and hence thyristor 53, are gated on at zero voltage. Capacitors 29, 26 now charge up, the charging of the capacitor 26 causing thransistors 55, 56 to assume such states that a capacitor 40 charges over a variable resistor 41. At a predetermined capacitor voltage, a device 42 breaks down to gate a pulse amplifier 38 whereby a pulse is produced in the primary winding 37a of a transformer 37, the associated pulse in the secondary winding 37b gating on a thyristor 43. A gating on pulse is then produced for the thyristor 35 whereupon the capacitor 29 discharges and charges in an oscillatory manner at a frequency determined by the parameters of the capacitor 29 and the inductor 30 whereby to energize the induction heating coil 31 at a value determined by the adjustable inductor 34. More than one coil 31 connected in series or in parallel may be energized. In order to eliminate interference with other electrical apparatus all the circuit elements with the exception of the induction heating coil 31 are housed in metal housing 58, 59, one inside the other and insulated from one another by members 61, the electrical connections through the inner housing 58 being provided with condenser bushings 60. The induction heating coil 31 is supported by means of a glass plate 57 at a predetermined distance therefrom and the upper surface of the plate 57 may be provided with an earthed metal foil member whereby the cooking utensil standing on the plate is earthed.
