    • A calibratable voltage divider made by thin-film or thick-film technology formed by a flat film is an ohmic voltage divider resistor connected to have current flow through it. At least one tap is provided to tap off a desired divider voltage. The ohmic voltage divider resistor includes a single, coherent first resistance zone (10), which has one area for supplying current and another for taking current away, each being connected with a respective connection conductor (11, 12). The tap is made in the form of a second resistance zone (13) connected with the first resistance zone (10) between the current supply, and current drainage areas, and a take-off electrode (14) is attached to the second resistance zone (13). As needed, one or two cuts (16, 17), which intersect the equipotential lines are made to partially separate the second resistance (13) from the resistor (10) zone extended far enough that the potential attains the desired value at the take-off electrode (14) of the tap. The cut is so placed with respect to the coherent resistance zone that its length, or extent, hardly affects the resistance of the coherent zone between the current supply and drainage areas.

    • An Exclusive-Or circuit has a symmetrical arrangement of components in order to provide an identical input impedance for both input signals and to provide identical switching and signal propagation times. The circuit includes input stages (EF.sub.1, EF.sub.2 ; EF.sub.3, EF.sub.4) for receiving first and second input signals (V.sub.E1 ; V.sub.E2) and emitter followers (EF.sub.5, EF.sub.6, EF.sub.7, EF.sub.8) connected to the input stages. A current switch stage (T.sub.11, T.sub.12, T.sub.13, T.sub.14) is driven by the input stage for the first input signal, and an identical current switch stage (T.sub.21, T.sub.22, T.sub.23, T.sub.24) is driven by the input stage for the second input signal. These current switch stages are connected by load resistors (R.sub.1, R.sub.1) to one pole of an operating voltage source (U.sub.B). Another current switch stage (T.sub.15, T.sub.16), is connected between a current source (I.sub.O /2) and the current switch stage (T.sub.11, T.sub.12, T.sub.13, T.sub.14) that is driven by the input stage for the first input signal, and another identical current switch stage (T.sub.25, T.sub.26) is connected between a further current source (I.sub.O 2) and the current switch stage (T.sub.21, T.sub.22, T.sub.23, T.sub.24) that is driven by the input stage for the second input signal. These current switch stages (T.sub.15, T.sub.16, T.sub.25, T.sub.26) are driven by the emitter followers (EF.sub.5, EF.sub.6 ; EF.sub.7, EF.sub.8) that are connected to the input stages. The current sources are connected to the other pole of the operating voltage source (U.sub.B). A buffer stage (EF.sub.9, EF.sub.10, EF.sub.11, EF.sub.12) connects the load resistors to a current switch (T.sub.8, T.sub.9) which provides the output signal (U.sub.A). An analog multiplier can be made by modifying this circuitry.

    • The downward burning of a vertical stack of solid fuel in a vertical furnace shaft is controlled by supplying most of the combustion air to the side of the stack through vertically spaced apart rows of combustion air supply openings in the vertical furnace shaft, each row of combustion air supply openings being generally horizontally oriented and including a plurality of separate openings. Each row of combustion air supply openings is supplied with combustion air through a separate combustion air supply channel, and the combination air fed to each supply channel is controlled by a distribution element which shifts the supply of combustion air to lower rows of air supply openings as the combustion zone moves down to the bottom of the vertical stack.

    • A vacuum switch of the type having contact electrodes which are coaxially movable with respect to each other for interrupting large currents. In one embodiment where a substantially cylindrical housing is arranged around the contacts, a radially inward bulge of metallic material is arranged near a center plane intermediate of the contacts. Such a bulge may be formed by inserting a metallic, annular insert within the housing, or producing an annular bulge in the housing itself. The bulge produces an inclination which is selected so that a plasma which flows from the arc which is produced upon interruption of the current is deflected in the axial direction. Such deflection reduces the stress on the vapor shield and is particularly advantageous with single-pulse switches which experience relatively long arcing times.
