    • A system and method for acquiring a transmitted spread-spectrum signal uses a matched filter configuration that is preferably employed as a Stage 2 filter in the second phase of an initial signal acquisition procedure performed in the receiver. In operation, a Stage 1 filter matches a sequence which is repeated a number of times according to a second sequence within a secondary synchronization sub-channel of the spread-spectrum signal. The Stage 2 filter of the invention then filters the output of the Stage 1 filter in order to recover a secondary synchronization code. The Stage 2 filters the output of the Stage 1 filter using three matched filters of its own. The first and second filters sample different taps of a sequence output from the Stage 1 filter. The third filter samples a predetermined number of taps overlapping taps for the first and second filters in a way that resolves ambiguities with respect to the identification of the sequence. The ambiguity resolution performed by the third filter improves the frequency offset robustness and thus the overall performance of the receiver.

    • A method and system for ciphering interface with list processing is described. Various aspects of a system for ciphering interface with list processing may include a cipher module that enables deciphering and/or bit stuffing, in hardware, of a potion of one of a plurality of data blocks starting at any bit location that is subsequent to a first bit of the one of the plurality of data blocks. One of the plurality of data blocks may comprise at least one data word. A modulus of a number representing the bit location with respect to a number of bits in the one of the data words may be a number greater than 0. The cipher module may enable selection of any bit location based on and index and/or an offset. The cipher module may enable selection of deciphering and/or bit stuffing based on configured information.

    • A baseband processing module includes TX processing components, a processor, memory, an RX interface, and a cell searcher module. The TX processing components receive outbound data, process the outbound data to produce a baseband TX signal, and output the baseband TX signal to a RF front end of the RF transceiver. The RX interface receives a baseband RX signal from the RF front end carrying a WCDMA signal.     • RF communications received by a wireless terminal from a servicing base station are used to determine the channel quality such as reported bit error probability (BEP). The RF communications may be in the form of RF bursts that are part of a data frame. An estimated BEP may be determined from the signal to noise ratio (SNR) of the RF bursts and or a sequence of soft decisions extracted from the RF bursts, and their historical performance. The SNR maps to an estimated BEP based upon the modulation format of the RF bursts. The soft decisions decode to produce a data block. When the soft decisions decoded favorably, the re-encoded data block produces a sequence of re-encoded decisions. Comparing the re-encoded decisions to the soft decisions yields a re-encoded bit error (RBER). The reported BEP may be based upon the estimated BEP, RBER, and/or RBER threshold. The RBER threshold may be adaptively incremented or decremented depending upon whether or not the RF communications were properly decoded. The size of the increment or decrement may be based on the channel quality.
