    • A computer system includes an operator input device, a central processing unit (CPU), and a display device, such as a liquid crystal display (LCD) or cathode ray tube (CRT) providing a visible image to the computer user as an output of computer activity. The computer system includes a video display controller (VDC) with a graphics generator. This VDC receives image information, such as text or graphics generated by the CPU, or retrieved by the CPU from another facility (such as a CD-ROM) of the computer system, and responsively provides image signals driving the CRT or LCD display. The VDC includes a power saving controller implementing one of several available power saving modes dependent upon one or more of several possible inputs. Each of the power saving modes includes the same list of VDC functions which may individually be enabled or disabled in each power saving mode dependent upon a bit value entered into a register of the power saving controller. Each of the power saving modes is ranked with the others in an order of succession. Accordingly, when each mode of power saving is enabled, it disables the lower-ranked modes of power saving. In turn, each mode of power saving is disabled and succeeded if a higher-ranked mode is enabled.

    • A computer system includes one or more display devices, such as a cathode ray tube (CRT) or liquid crystal display (LCD) for providing a visible display to a user of the computer system. The computer system includes a video display controller (VDC) with a graphics generator. This VDC receives image information, such as text or graphics generated by a processor (CPU) or retrieved by the CPU from another facility (such as a CD-ROM) of the computer system, and provides signals driving one or both of the CRT or LCD displays. The VDC includes a sequencer and controller (SEQC) for a dynamic random access memory (DRAM) which is interfaced with the VDC. The SEQC arbitrates requests from various devices of the computer system for access to the DRAM, and facilitates these access according to a multi-tiered priority scheme. Accordingly, more efficient access to the DRAM is insured for the various devices of the computer system, and utilization of the DRAM, as well as the time of devices which are sometimes required to wait for access to the DRAM is improved.

    • The present invention is directed to a display FIFO module for use in DRAM interface that includes a DRAM controller sequencer which prioritizes requests for DRAM access received from various modules, such as a CPU, a blit engine module, and a half frame buffer logic module, etc. The display FIFO module is connected between the DRAM controller sequencer and a display pipeline which is connected to a display device. The display FIFO module issues low and high priority requests for DRAM access to the DRAM controller sequencer for loading the FIFO with display data to be transferred to the display device. The low priority request is issued at the earliest time when the display FIFO is capable of accepting new data without overwriting unread data. This is determined by comparing the FIFO data level against a predetermined low threshold value. The low priority request is issued when the FIFO data level falls below or is equal to the low threshold value. A high priority request is issued when the FIFO mug receive new data or FIFO underrun will occur. This is determined by comparing the FIFO data level against a predetermined high threshold value. The high priority request is issued when the FIFO data level falls below or is equal to the high threshold value.

    • The present invention discloses an improved information security system and method. A polymorphic engine is used to enhance the security features of a software application and the data generated by or made available to the application and/or the operating system. The polymorphic engine operates to randomly alter the standard executable code of the original application while preserving its functional characteristics. Each polymorphed instance of the application differs from any other instance of the same application in form only. Various other security features operate to protect the polymorphic engine itself and/or the polymorphed code generated therefrom. These other security features include: just-in-time instruction code decryption; virtual CPU instruction code pre-processing; call mutation; stack manipulation; secure hook-capture of device input; secure display device output; application level decryption of encrypted hardware data streams; and a dynamic, randomly configured graphical keypad interface.

    • A regional anesthesia catheter used with a guide such as for example a needle cannula has a distal portion integrally connected to a main portion of the catheter by a junction portion that has a cross-sectional profile different from the distal and main portions, so as to predispose the distal portion of the catheter to move in a given direction when the distal portion is not guided by or constrained by the needle cannula. The cross-sectional profile of the junction portion may be configured in a particular shape, or be constructed to have a flexibility that predisposes the distal portion to bend, curve or move toward a given direction. Once the predisposed direction to which the distal end of the catheter points is known, a physician can readily orient the catheter relative to the needle cannula so that once the distal end of the catheter exits the distal tip of the needle cannula, with the cannula already placed in a position proximate to the desired location to which the distal end of the catheter is to be placed, the physician can readily place the distal end of the catheter at the desired location within the patient. Instead of only one junction portion, a number of portions of a catheter may be configured to bend at a predefined direction. Further, a catheter may be configured to have a cross sectional profile or a predefined flexibility along its entire length that causes the catheter to bend, curve or move in a predefined direction.

    • A unique gas lift valve bellows assembly in which an internal piston incorporated within the bellows provides over travel prevention and over pressure protection during valve operation, independent of the set or operating gas pressures exerted on the gas lift valve. The piston separates a hydraulic damping reservoir in the interior convolutions of the bellows from the upper gas volume chamber. The piston travels a pre-set distance between two stops to provide a fluid dampened hydraulic balance across the bellows convolutions in both the open and closed positions of the valve. This results in a long lived bellows valve that can operate with any pressure up to the limits of the material, without overstressing the bellows.
