    • The plate material made of plastics material and the window pane material made of plastics both of the present invention are composed of a base plastics material and a functional adhesive film. The functional adhesive film has one or more of functions such as scratch resistance and selective transmission of light and free from the troubles of forming blisters due to the gas emission from the substrate surface to which the adhesive film is applied and bonded by using a unique pressure-sensitive adhesive to form the adhesive layer on a base film. The principal ingredient of the adhesive used in the present invention is a copolymer having a specified molecular weight and a specified glass transition temperature and composed of (a) from 50 to 85 percent by weight of a first monomeric moiety of an acrylic ester, e.g., 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, (b) from 1 to 30 percent by weight of a second monomeric moiety of an acrylic compound having a polar group, e.g., acrylic acid, and (c) from 5 to 40 percent by weight of a third monomeric moiety of a macromonomer having a polymeric molecular chain of styrene units and/or methyl methacrylate units and having a polymerizable functional group, e.g., methacryloyl group, at the molecular chain end.

              A 1 -M 1 -X-B-Y-M 2 -A 2      (I)

      wherein A 1 and A 2 are terminal chain groups, respectively; M 1 and M 2 are mesogen groups, respectively; X and Y are independently a bonding group selected from -COO- and -OCO-; and B is an aromatic group. The compound exhibits ferroelectric twisted grain boundary liquid crystalline properties over a wide range of temperature, and the crystal phases originating from such structure absorb light over a wide range of spectrum including visible light and, hence, are useful as a material for preparing light controlling devices, optical filters, recording devices, heat-sensitive ink, heat-sensitive pigments, toner pigments and the like, showing high industrial usefulness. Furthermore, the thermolabels, heat-sensitive recording media and the like of the present invention have high coloring and decoloring rates and are less expensive because of having no optically active group.
