    • A positive electrode active material has an average particle diameter of 4.5 to 15.5 μm and a specific surface area of 0.13 to 0.80 m2/g. A positive electrode mixture layer contains a silane coupling agent and/or at least one of aluminum, titanium, or zirconium based coupling agent having an alkyl or alkoxy groups having 1 to 18 carbon atoms at a content of 0.003% by mass or more and 5% by mass or less with respect to the mass of the positive electrode active material. The nonaqueous electrolyte contains a fluorinated cyclic carbonate esters at a content of 0.3% by mass or more with respect to the total mass of the nonaqueous electrolyte. Thus the nonaqueous secondary battery in which, when used with a nonaqueous electrolyte containing a fluorinated cyclic carbonate esters, cycle characteristics are good and nail penetration characteristics are superior is provided.

    • A non-aqueous electrolyte secondary cell is provided having enhanced safety against overcharge and reduced self-discharge. The non-aqueous electrolyte secondary cell includes: a positive electrode having a positive electrode active material; a negative electrode having a negative electrode active material; and a non-aqueous electrolyte containing a non-aqueous solvent and electrolytic salt. The non-aqueous solvent contains 20 to 80 volume % tertiary carboxylic acid ester represented by formula 1 at 25° C. and 1 atm. The non-aqueous electrolyte contains an alkylbenzene compound and/or a halogenated benzene compound. where R1 to R4 each denote a straight-chained or branched alkyl group having 4 or less carbon atoms and may be the same or different.

    • A non-aqueous electrolyte secondary cell with superior cycle characteristics is provided. The non-aqueous electrolyte secondary cell has a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a non-aqueous electrolyte containing a non-aqueous solvent and an electrolyte salt. The non-aqueous solvent contains ethylene carbonate and propylene carbonate. The ratio of the ethylene carbonate to the total mass of the ethylene carbonate and the propylene carbonate is from 0.40 to 0.78. The non-aqueous electrolyte contains a 1,3-dioxane compound at a mass % of from 0.1 to 5.0. The 1,3-dioxane compound is represented by Formula 1: where R1 to R4 independently denote a hydrogen atom, a methyl group, or an ethyl group.
