    • A reciprocatory cutter head includes a pair of cutter heads mounted to a head frame. Each of the cutter heads is of elongated configuration extending horizontally to define a longitudinal axis and have opposed longitudinal ends. The cutter head includes an elongated outer shearing foil which comes into hair shearing engagement with an inner cutter driven to reciprocate along the longitudinal axis. The cutter heads are floatingly supported to the head frame in such a manner that the cutter heads are vertically movable relative to the head frame independently from each other as well as that each of the cutter heads is vertically movable at one longitudinal end substantially independently of the other longitudinal end. Whereby, the cutter heads cooperate with each other to readily conform to the shapes of a user's skin with maximum skin engaging area for assuring enhanced shaving performance, particularly at the irregularly contoured portions of the skin.

    • A depilating device has a housing with a top opening and a plucking head with a longitudinal axis. The plucking head carries a series of pinching elements arranged in side-by-side relations to form therebetween gaps. At least one of the adjacent pinching elements is movable relative to the other so as to entrap and pinch the hairs between the adjacent pinching elements for plucking the hairs from the skin. A skin guide is disposed around the plucking head to be exposed at least partially beyond the pinching elements for sliding contact with the skin. The plucking head and the skin guide are floatingly supported to the housing by means of a common structure such that they are depressed together into the housing within a predetermined extent.

    • A dry shaver includes a perforated outer shearing foil and an inner cutter. The outer shearing foil has a first axis along which it is arcuately curved. The inner cutter has a longitudinal axis along which it is arcuately curved to have an arcuate contour in conformity with the outer shearing foil and is driven to reciprocate in hair shearing engagement with the outer shearing foil. The inner cutter comprises a plurality of inner blades which are spaced along the longitudinal axis in parallel relation to each other, each of the blades having opposed first and second faces each defining a cutting edge at its upper end so that the individual cutting edges are cooperative to define the arcuate contour. Each inner blade, which is offset from a longitudinal center of the inner cutter, is formed with a first face directing outwardly in the offset direction with an undercut immediately adjacent to the cutting edge. The undercut cooperates with the adjacent cutting edge to give an first rake angle .beta. with respect to the vertical plane as well as to give a true rake angle .delta. with respect to a plane normal to the curvature of the arcuate contour of the inner cutter at the contact between the adjacent cutting edge and the outer shearing foil.

    • A hand-held depilating device capable of masking the pain of plucking the hairs through psychological effect. The depilating device comprises housing adapted to be grasped by the hand of the user and a plucking head mounted on top of the housing for plucking the hairs from the skin. Stimulator is mounted on top of the housing adjacent to the plucking head for providing mechanical stimuli to the skin while the plucking head operates to pluck the hairs. The stimulator comprises a vibrator which provides vibrations to the skin as the mechanical stimuli which act on sense receptors other than nociceptors that respond to pain, thereby masking the pain caused by plucking the hairs or received at the nociceptors. That is, the mechanical stimuli caused by the vibrations can activate Meissner's corpuscle or Pacinian corpuscle to make indistinct to the pain as demonstrated by a gate-control theory in psychology. Thus, the mechanical stimuli applied separately from the plucking operation can excite the tactile or pressure sense receptors so as to activate the gate control path at posterior horn of the spinal cord immediately before or simultaneously with the plucking the hair, thereby blurring the pain being transmitted through the nerve. Alternately, roller with stimulus projections may be utilized to apply the mechanical stimuli for alleviation of the pain.

    • A shaving foil for a dry shaver has a plurality of perforation arranged in an array. The shaving foil is formed in its skin contact surface with a plurality of recesses which define a thin section of reduced thickness at the recesses, while leaving thick sections at the remainder of the foil. Each perforation is configured to have its circumference defined partly by the thin section and partly by the thick section. Both of the thin and thick sections can come into contact with a user's skin for smoothly guiding hairs into the perforations to make close shaving without irritating the skin, while the shaving foil is moved across the skin. Especially, the thin sections act to cut the hairs shorter than the thick section, as wall as to raise flattened hairs into the perforations for successfully cutting the flattened hairs.

    • An improved epilating device is capable of effectively removing the hairs at different skin portions of the human body. The epilating device includes a single housing which is shaped to be grasped by the hand of a user and which includes a drive source. The housing carries a first epilation module provided at its top with a first plucking head which is driven by the drive source to effect the plucking of the body hairs. The first plucking head has a length defining therealong a first epilation zone.
