    • A cartridge handling hand of a cartridge system sliding valve apparatus for a molten metal vessel is mountable to a general purpose robot. The hand includes a cartridge pressing cylinder secured to a mounting plate whose one side surface is provided with a device for mounting a carrier arm. A first pair of cylinder support arms for lock pins and a second pair of support arms are attached vertically to the other side surface of the mounting plate. Lock pins are attached to piston rod ends of cylinders which are secured to the cylinder support arms 2. Cartridge clamp arms are slidably fitted into guide pins provided vertically in the outside of the second pair of support arms. The cartridge clamp arms are coupled through a cylinder which opens or closes the arms. A cartridge system sliding valve apparatus includes positioning metal fittings for interfitting with the lock pins of the cartridge handling hand of the invention and positioning pins which fit in the positioning recesses of a cartridge.

    • A submerged nozzle mounting/dismounting apparatus for mounting a submerged nozzle (9) on and dismounting the same from a slide valve device (5) of a molten metal vessel (1) of a continuous casting system, is provided with a submerged nozzle holding mechanism (25) having support arms (27) for holding the submerged nozzle pressed against the slide valve device through mounting pins (13) on the upper part of the submerged nozzle. For automated operation to eliminate all kinds of heavy physical work in a hot environment, the submerged nozzle mounting/dismounting apparatus comprises a slide base (32) laterally slidably mounted for positional adjustment relative to the support arms (27) on a robot arm (21) supported for turning on a stand. A submerged nozzle hanger (40) is provided for supporting the submerged nozzle via support pins (14) projecting from the submerged nozzle. The hanger (40) is pivotally supported for turning in a vertical plane on the slide base. A guide member (45) provided below the slide valve device operates to guide the submerged nozzle hanger (40) for turning in a vertical plane and to guide the slide base through the submerged nozzle hanger for movement in directions perpendicular to the vertical plane in which the submerged nozzle hanger turns. A contact mechanism (46) is supported on the submerged nozzle hanger so as to move along guide surfaces (48, 49) of the guide member. The contact mechanism (46) is guided along the guide surfaces to move the mounting pins (13) of the submerged nozzle on the submerged nozzle hanger into pin receiving grooves (28) of the support arms (27) and to adjust the horizontal positions of the mounting pins (13) so as to be in alignment with the positions of the support arms (27).

    • A display device for a vehicle includes: a self-luminous indicator which has a display screen with a plurality of pixels; a display control unit that displays image information indicating at least a given display pattern on a display screen of the self-luminous indicator; a display time measuring unit that measures a display time of the self-luminous indicator; and a brightness adjusting unit that adjusts the brightness of the display screen on the basis of at least the display time measured by the display time measuring unit in order to suppress non-uniform brightness deterioration of the display screen when the non-uniform brightness deterioration occurs on the display screen. The display control unit displays the image information on the display screen of the self-luminous indicator with the brightness adjusted by the brightness adjusting unit.

    • A method and apparatus for sharing signal pins on an interface between a system controller and peripheral integrated circuits reduces the number of signal pins required on a system controller integrated circuit. Signals of differing types are qualified by an internal peripheral select signal from which chip select signals for a plurality of externally interfaced peripheral integrated circuits are generated. The interface functions so that a single signal pin may be used for carrying different signal types between the system controller and each of the peripheral integrated circuits. The use of the internal peripheral select signal ensures that the setup times for the selection circuitry and pin drivers are met before a chip select signal enables communication with a selected peripheral and that a hold time is maintained for signals on shared interface pins so that the peripheral integrated circuits receive valid inputs from shared pins.
