    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter medium in which, in a clarification treatment of water, it is easy in replacement, having excellent attachability of suspended matter and water permeability, and reduced volume after replacement and disposability. SOLUTION: The filter medium comprises perlite of independent air bubble structure with apparent specific gravity of 0.1-0.2 and an average particle size of 0.5-6.0 mm, and a laminating and fixing material formed by blending calcium silicate, portland cement or smectite into siloxane and silanol salt multimolecular solution, or sodium silicate aqueous solution at a volume ratio of 3-24 vol.%. The laminating and fixing material is kneaded at a ratio of 10-20 vol.% to the perlite, and coveringly coated on the whole perlite outer face, and laminated and fixed to a given dimensional shape with the molding raw material.
