    • A screen manufacturing method makes it possible to manufacture a display screen using flat display panels and to consistently form a flat display screen. More specifically, m flat display panels are fixed on a holder during a manufacturing process of the display screen, and then a flexible substrate is fixed to electrode pins of a flat display panel which project over a back surface of the holder so as to form a unit. After fitting a frame to the unit, a part on which a connector is arranged with a part of the flexible substrate being bent is fitted on a surface of the frame so as to form a submodule. Then, by connecting submodules, a module is formed. By assembling the module, a display screen is produced.

    • In a cell drive-type flat display panel, a metal electrode pad 26 and common signal line 24 are disposed outside the area (effective area) facing a recessed portion forming a cell. The individual cell electrode 20 acting as a cell electrode within the effective area is connected to a metal electrode pad 26 by extending each cell electrode to the metal electrode pad 26, while the metal electrode is not extended toward the effective area to cover each cell electrode. A common electrode 22 is connected to the common signal line 24 by extending each cell electrode to the metal electrode pad 26, while the metal electrode is not extended toward the effective area and to cover each cell electrode. This structure makes the cell electrodes flat and can reduce the drive voltage from the effect resulting from the suppressed dielectric film. The metal electrode pad 26 has a top surface on which a pin electrode is posted. The dielectric layer has an opening from which the metal electrode pad 26 is exposed, and covers the edges of the metal electrode pad 26. This structure can prevent the transparent electrode layer bridging the individual electrode 20 with the metal electrode pad 26 from making contact with the dielectric layer or frit with high reactivity.

    • A flat display panel is provided which can improve the reliability of the contact portion where a flat plate and a back plate are bonded together and can suppress the display dead space. Recessed portions 52 are formed in a glass substrate 60 so that a sealing wall 63 is formed along the outer fringe of a back plate 61. The front plate 54 includes a protrusion 59 protruding outward from the sealing wall 63 on the outer fringe portion thereof. The contact portion between the front plate 54 and the back plate 61 is sealed by depositing fritted glass 62 onto the corner portion defined by the protrusion 59 and the side surface of the back plate 61. In order to improve the sealing effect, the fritted glass 62 is inserted into the gap at the bonding portion. The groove 64 is formed on the top surface of the sealing wall 63 to prevent the fritted glass 62 from intruding in to the discharge space.
