    • In order to reduce the load on the operator in monitoring a moving object in the moving picture signal supplied from the imaging device, the signal is displayed in one region of the display device. The moving route of the moving object which has entered the view of the imaging device is extracted, based on the signal. The first image data showing the image of a moving route of an extracted moving object is generated, and the second image data showing the image of the moving object is generated based on the signal. The overlapped image of the image of the moving route and the image of the moving object is displayed in another region of the display device together with the extraction time of the image of the moving object. The processing above is repeated to other moving objects which enter the view later on. The overlapped images for different moving images thus extracted are displayed adjacent to each other in the region.

    • A digital camera has an image sensor, and an optical system for focusing a scene on the image sensor. A zooming system is used for changing a zoom rate of the scene that is focused on the image sensor. By operating the zooming system during the recording of a series of images, each of the images has a different zoom rate and therefore a different level of detail and field of view. The images are combined to form one still image of super high resolution. The zoom rate between images is detected by using horizontal and vertical pixel intensity value projection distributions in both forward and backward prediction methods. Horizontal and vertical candidate projection distributions that are correlated to a range of possible zoom rates are compared with the horizontal and vertical projection distributions of the former and current images being processed to determine a least error match that is selected as the zoom rate between the adjacent images. Using the image to image zoom rate, a scaling factor is determined that is used for scaling each current image before overwriting the current image over the former images previously written to the image buffer. In this way, the detail of each image in the series is written to the image buffer and a super high resolution, wide angle still image is formed that can be stored and displayed.

    • A system for detecting a point of change between video shots from a video having a plurality of succeeding frames. The system includes video playback apparatus for playing a video chronologically one frame at a time, and a display for displaying the video. The a processing device for calculating a feature quantity of video image data for each frame, determining a first correlation coefficient between a feature quantity of a current frame and a feature quantity calculated from an immediately preceding frame and determining a second correlation coefficient between the feature quantity of the current frame and a feature quantity of at least two frames preceding the current frame, and indicating on the display a point of change between video shots when the first correlation coefficient and the second correlation coefficient are out of predetermined allowable ranges. The correlation coefficients of each frame is stored and can be used by the processing device to dynamically change a reference used for detecting a point of change between video shots. The change in the reference is performed based on the stored correlation coefficients or feature quantities of past frames.

    • A method and apparatus for displaying a representative image corresponding to a shot of a duration within a specified range included in a plurality of shots of a moving image. The moving image includes a plurality of successive frames each having an image and each shot includes a plurality of the successive frames. In the invention a plurality of shot change points are sequentially detected from the moving image. The shot change points represent points between a pair of frames where images of a preceding shot and images of a succeeding shot have changed. Thereafter a detection is performed to determine whether a duration of a shot between a preceding shot change point and a succeeding shot change point is within the specified range. A representative image corresponding to the shot having a duration within the specified range is displayed along with duration time information representing the duration of the shot. A reduced image from the shot can be displayed as the representative image and the number of detected shots having a duration within the specified range can be reduced according to preset conditions.
