    • An authentication device that authenticates an individual by using features of a biological object includes an input device 2 to place the biological object thereon, a plurality of image capture devices 9 that capture the biological object, an authentication processing unit 10 that processes images captured by the plurality of image capture devices, a plurality of light sources 3 to capture the features of the biological object and the biological object, and a storage device 14 that stores first feature data registered in advance. The authentication processing unit 10 includes a checking processing unit that checks second feature data representing the features of the biological object captured by the image capture devices with each of the first feature data and a biological position/shape detection unit that detects position/shape information of finger such as flexure, floating, bending, and the like of finger, and the plurality of light sources are arranged in a front part, a lower part, and a side part of the device with respect to the biological object, and, on the basis of a detection result obtained by the biological position/shape detection unit, controls on/off states of the plurality of light sources to switch feature values used in authentication.

    • An identification apparatus keeps the conditions for imaging uniform among successive identifications, and requires a user to perform only a series of simple maneuvers. The apparatus comprises a guide member, a light source, and an imaging unit. The guide member includes a pattern or structure for a user to position his/her finger thereon or to approach his/her specific finger region thereto. A contact member is located in the guide member where a fingertip is positioned. An optical opening is formed at a position coincident with where a finger to be imaged should be placed. The light source radiates near-infrared light through the portion of the finger to be imaged. The imaging means acquires an image of the finger, and the apparatus compares the image to previously registered images. The apparatus may also include dual light sources power saving functionality, and means for limiting the interference of external light sources.

    • A vein authentication device has an interface on which a part of a living body is placed. One or more light sources for emitting infrared light and an image pickup unit are provided for picking up a blood vessel image of the part of the living body using infrared light emitted from the light sources. An image computing unit processes the blood vessel image picked up by the image pickup unit. A light shielding unit shields infrared light emitted from the light sources and prevents the infrared light from traveling in an image pickup direction of the image pickup unit. The interface has an opening opened in the image pickup direction of the image pickup unit, and the light sources irradiate the part of the living body with infrared light from an image pickup side of the part of the living body.
