    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-traveling overhead wire inspection device which can pass stably over an obstacle on an overhead wire if any, and can inspect a multiple conductor overhead wire in a hot-line state. SOLUTION: The device 1 comprises two traveling units which travel on an overhead wire when drive wheels rotationally traveling on the overhead wire, and a unit suspended from the traveling unit and shifting the center of gravity of the free running overhead wire inspection device. The center of gravity shifting unit is connected with one traveling unit such that it can rotate with respect to one traveling unit about a horizontal axis perpendicular to the traveling direction of the self-traveling overhead wire inspection device, and can also rotate with respect to one traveling unit about a vertical axis. The center of gravity shifting unit is connected with the other traveling unit such that it can rotate with respect to the other traveling unit about the horizontal axis perpendicular to the traveling direction of the self-traveling overhead wire inspection device, and can also rotate with respect to the other traveling unit about the vertical axis.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection method of softness of a transmission line (aluminum strands in hot-line state). SOLUTION: An impact is given to a transmission line by an impact applying means, and deformation of the strands of the transmission line by impact application is observed for determination of softness. As the impact applying means, a device having only a function of giving a light impact to the strands such as an air gun, or a general device utilizing air pressure may be used. A line whose deformation is d/n of a strand diameter ϕd or more is determined as being to be replaced based on a database.
