    • A combination switch for performing various functions comprises a fixed substrate having an output contact assembly which has a common output contact and other output contacts which are electrically insulated from the common output contact. The switch also comprises a movable substrate having a switch contact assembly which has a common contact and other contacts which are electrically connected to the common contact. A switch lever is for moving the movable substrate with respect to the fixed substrate to shift the switch contact assembly relative to the output contact assembly, thereby selectively connecting the common output contact to the output contacts through the switch contact assembly to supply from the output contact assembly a pattern signal indicative of one of different conductive patterns. A processor judges, in response to the pattern signal, to which function the conductive pattern corresponds and producing an operational signal for performing the indicated function.

    • An electronic key system for a vehicle that prevents private information from being available to a third person. The electronic key system includes a terminal, electronic keys, and a device having comparing and control components. Each electronic key stores a distinct identification code and transmits the identification code to the vehicle. At least one of the identification codes is a restriction code for restricting the usage of the terminal. The comparing component is arranged in the vehicle and stores verification codes associated with the identification codes. The comparing component retrieves the identification code of one of the electronic keys and compares the retrieved identification code with an associated one of the verification codes. The control component restricts activation of the terminal when the retrieved identification code is the restriction code.

    • A reductive seat belt retractor for an automotive seat belt arrangement has a belt spool rotatably supported on a housing by a spool shaft which is rotatable with the belt spool in belt extracting and retracting directions. The spool shaft rigidly mounts a first gear for co-rotation therewith. A plurality of second gears are associated with the first gear for transmitting rotational torque therebetween. An internal gear is associated with the first and/or second gears for transmitting rotational torque therebetween, the internal gear being provided greater gear ratio versus the first gear. A ratchet wheel defining a spring receptacle chamber and a locking member associated with the ratchet wheel are provided for establishing and releasing locking of the ratchet wheel for preventing the ratchet wheel from rotating at least in the belt retracting direction. A solenoid is associated with the locking member for establishing locking engagement between the ratchet wheel and the locking member when a seat belt is worn by a passenger, and for releasing the locking engagement when the passenger takes off the seat belt. First and second springs disposed within the chamber are associated to each other in series. A spring force transmitting network includes a first force transmitting network active at unlocked position of the ratchet wheel and a second force transmitting network active at locking position of the ratchet wheel.

    • An electrical connector is provided for terminating a flat circuit. The connector includes a dielectric housing having an elongated slot for receiving the flat circuit. A plurality of terminals are mounted on the housing and are spaced laterally along the slot. The terminals have contact portions for engaging appropriate conductors of the flat circuit. An actuator is pivotally mounted on the housing for rotational movement between an open position allowing insertion of the flat circuit into the slot and an actuating position biasing the flat circuit against the contact portions of the terminals. Complementary interengaging oblique ramps are provided on the housing and the actuator. The oblique ramps are arranged to confront and abut each other when the actuator is in its open position to hold the actuator thereat.
