    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flame-retardant PVA-based fiber and a flame-retardant composite each capable of inducing the manifestation of a flame-retardant performance without using an antimony compound.SOLUTION: The provided PVA-based fiber includes, as major polymer components, a PVA-based polymer and a chlorine-containing polymer, includes virtually no antimony compound, includes 0.5-13 mass% of a silicon compound having an average particle diameter of 0.2-3 μm with respect to the polyvinyl alcohol-based polymer, and includes 0.5-13 mass% of a tin compound having an average particle diameter of 3 μm or less with respect to the polyvinyl alcohol-based polymer. This PVA-based fiber is used after having been composited with a non-flame-retardant fiber having a limit oxygen index of 26 or less, for example, and forms a flame-retardant composite.
