The sludge is further crushed with a weir plate 47 and is fed to succeeding squeezing rolls. Thus, the baffle plates and the weir plates are disposed alternately to plough over the sludge many times and to discharge and dorp the free water by the compressive squeezing of the sludge and the exposure of the belt surface at each time, whereby gravity dehydration is progressed with extremely good efficiency.

By widely constituting the bottom surface of the sled member 33 and forming a warp part 32 to the leading end thereof, the sled part 33 contacting with the surface of sludge rear to the gravitational dehydration part does not creep into the sludge layer and the sludge thickness can be detected without being disturbed by the small variation of the sludge thickness.

The sludge cake is washed away effectively without decrease in the washing effect by the interference of the spouting water.

Since the penetration of the filtrate into the sludge which is once dehydrated by pressure by contact with said sludge is obviated, the increase in the water content of the dehydrated sludge is prevented.
