摘要： An absorbent fiber includes a cellulose fiber that has been modified via chemical modification, where the chemical modification is selected from carboxymethylation, sulfonation, sulfation or phosphonation. The absorbent fiber can be substantially water- insoluble and water-swellable. The absorbent fiber exhibits a Centrifuge Retention Capacity after four hours of between 1.4 and 8 grams per gram and an absorption rate between 0.0001 and 0.01 sec -1 . Absorbent articles having a topsheet, a backsheet and an absorbent core can also include the absorbent fiber.

摘要： The present invention relates to disposable absorbent articles that include absorbent systems. The absorbent system includes an absorbent pad formed of absorbent materials and having a lateral direction and a longitudinal direction. The absorbent pad has a narrow zone area of increased thickness of absorbent materials that has a length greater than or equal to 80% of the length of the absorbent pad. The narrow zone area has a width in the lateral direction of the absorbent pad that is less than or equal to 62% and greater than or equal to 20% of the width of a non-zone area.

摘要： An in-line formed web having major surfaces in the X-Y plane and a depth in the Z direction is suitable for use as a composite fluid distribution and fluid retention layer in a disposable absorbent article. The web contains multiple layers of composite material which may have both thermoplastic fibers and absorbent material. The multiple layers can have different compositions of thermoplastic fibers and absorbent material as applied in-line by various arrangements of thermoplastic melt dies and absorbent fiber dispensers. By arranging at least two of the multiple layers in an opposing relation overlaid in the Z-axis direction of the web, a gradient can be formed in the Z-direction of the web. By coordinating the timing and deposition of the material onto a forming wire, at least one of the multiple layers is arranged to have zones of intermittent material deposition in at least one of a machine direction or a cross direction of the web. Thus the in-line formed composite web has a Z-direction gradient of air laid material layers and zones of different material layers intermittently placed in one of the machine direction or the cross direction and may be customized according to the specific need for a single composite structure having fluid intake, distribution and retention properties in an absorbent article.

摘要： There is provided a new structural composite comprising a web of Z-directionally oriented fibers. The web must contain a large percentage of superabsorbent fibers and the balance of the fibers may be synthetic or natural fibers. Binder fibers are present and should be present in an amount of between 10 and 45 weight percent, more particularly about 30 weight percent. Polyethylene/ polypropylene side-by-side or sheath/core bicomponent fibers are particularly well suited for this purpose. Natural fibers or synthetic fibers that are hydrophilic may also be added to the web in order to control the wettability of the web. Pulp, cotton, and Rayon are suitable for this purpose and may be present in an amount between 0 and 40 weight percent, more particularly about 20 to 30 percent. These materials are suitable for use in personal care products like diapers, training pants, incontinence products, bandages, and sanitary napkins.
