    • PURPOSE:To prevent the penetration of molten steel into a closed tuyere and to prevent the falling-off and the floating of a closing refractory material, in closing the tuyere of the damaged furnace bottom of a bottom blowing converter, the inside of the tuyere is filled with plural peaces of figurate refractory materials by using a small amount of an amorphous refractory material. CONSTITUTION:When a part of the furnace bottom tuyere of a bottom blowing converter is damaged, said tuyere is closed and the remaining tuyer is used to carry out refining. In closing the damaged tuyere, into the outer pipe 4 of the tuyere, plural pieces of figurate refractory materials 5a-5e having an outer diameter slightly smaller than the inner diameter of the tuyere outer pipe 4 are successively put as well as the peripheries of plural pieces of the figurate refractory materials are coated with an amorphous refractory material 6 such as magnesia mortar having a thermosetting resin as a binder compounded therein to close the inside of the tuyere outer pipe 4. Because the closing material is free from voids, the penetration of molten metal during refining or the falling-off and the floating of the closing refractory material are not generated and, therefore, molten metal is not leaked from this closed part.

    • PURPOSE:To effectively perform dephosphorization and to reduce the oxidation loss of Mn by specifying the basicity after the treatment of molten iron, the compounding of powdery refining agents, the amount of blowing oxygen, the temp. of treatment and the amount of bottom blowing gas. CONSTITUTION:Molten iron added with a coolant which suppresses temp. rise owing to blowing treatment is charged into a blowing vessel which is provided, at least, with a passage opening in the bottom wall and further permits adding of top blowing of blowing oxygen according to need. The molten iron temp. during blowing is kept at 1,250-1,450 deg.C. A powdery refining agent prepd. by compounding a flux consisting of at least one kind of fluorite, soda ash, cryolite, colemanite and red mud with calcium oxide which is a main component is blown together with blowing gas from the bottom part, the the slag basicity CaO/SiO2 after the treatment is controlled to 3-6. The amount of oxygen due to the charging of the coolant is set at 8-15Nm per ton of the molten iron, and the blowing gas is fed from the bottom part at a >=0.5Nm feed rate per minute per ton of the molten iron.

    • PURPOSE:To control the basicity of molten slag with high accuracy by blowing the SiO2-contained ore such as silica sand into the molten metal through the bottom tuyeres at the bottom blowing converter operation thereby adding the same into the molten slag at a high yield. CONSTITUTION:Molten slag is made to have high basicity in order to let desulphurization and dephosphorization be accomplished in the bottom blowing converter. Since this high-basicity molten slag has a high CaO content and is not good in slag- off, inexpensive slag-forming agents of a high SiO2 content such as silica sand are added. In this case, the SiO2-base slag-forming agents having been sized to fine particles of 1mm. or less are blown together with oxygen gas or inert gas into the molten metal through the refining-oxygen-blowing central pipe of the double tuyeres of the converter bottom. Since slag-forming agents are not blown from the upper part of the converter, they will not be sucked by a dust collector and are melted into the molten slag at an extremely high yield, thus the basicity of the molten slag may be made to the target value at a high success ratio.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce the using amount of hydrocarbon and also, to decrease the damage of refractory material of tuyere and its circumference, by keeping the using amount of hydrocarbon for tuyere cooling used at the same time constant, on occasion of exceeding the sending amount of oxygen from the double tube tuyere of furnace bottom more than a fix amount at the time of operating the bottom blowing converter. CONSTITUTION:Oxygen for oxidation refining and hydrocarbon for tuyere cooling, are jetted from the double tube tuyere provided at the bottom of furnace, at the time of refining steel from molten pig iron in the bottom blowing converter. On this occasion, using amount of the hydrocarbon gas for tuyere cooling using jointly with oxygen, is jetted keeping at a constant value without increasing in proportion to the flowing amount of oxygen, when the flowing amount of oxygen gas per sectional area of the tuyere, is made 2.0Nm /min/cm or more. Using amount of the hydrocarbon is able to reduce more than the usual operation and also, exfoliation of refractory brick around tuyere based on excess cooling of the tuyere by spalling and shortening of life of the furnace bottom are prevented.
